The Cadillac Series 60 was a model offered by the US automobile manufacturer General Motors from 1936 to 1938 under the Cadillac brand .

Only in 1935 did the factory's 16-cylinder models also go under the name Series 60; from 1936 these were referred to as Series 90 . For better differentiation, the new Series 60 was unofficially named Series 36-60 (model year 1936) or 37-60 (1937) etc.

Model history

As part of the reorganization of the model range for model year 1936, the Cadillac range was divided into the types Series 60, Series 70, Series 75 (with V8), Series 80 and 85 (with V12 engine) and Series 90 (with V16 engine).

The Series 60 was the cheapest Cadillac model and was powered by a completely new 5.3-liter V8 with upright valves (125 hp), while the 70/75 had the brand's new 5.7-liter V8 ; the 60 also had a shorter wheelbase (307 instead of 333 or 350.5 cm for the 70/75). Initially, two-door coupes and convertibles and a five-seat touring sedan were offered. In terms of price, the 60 was about $ 500 below comparable models in the 65 series.

In 1937 the wheelbase of the Series 60 grew to 315 cm; Another new addition to the range was a four-door convertible and the 5.7-liter (135 hp) was now also used in the 60.

In 1938 the Cadillac Sixty Special appeared as a special model based on the 60th.

From 1939 the Cadillac Series 61 replaced the 60 in the Cadillac program; the 60 Special remained in production.

Of the Series 60, 15,767 pieces were produced in three years; all bodies were from Fisher Bodies.
