The Cadillac Sixteen is a prototype of an elegant high-performance car from Cadillac that was introduced in 2003.

After its presentation at the Detroit Opera House , it was formally shown publicly for the first time at the North American International Auto Show .

The car is equipped with a 16-cylinder V-engine with 13.6 liter displacement and 32 valves, which Cadillac developed especially for this model. The rear wheels are driven by a four-stage, electronically controlled automatic transmission (4-speed Hydra-Matic 4L85 ). The engine has an electronically controlled cylinder shut-off and can shut off eight or twelve of the 16 cylinders depending on the load while driving, as soon as their power is not required. All 16 cylinders are only used at full acceleration. This is one of the reasons why the vehicle, which weighs 2270 kg when empty, consumes 11.8 l / 100 km. According to the manufacturer, the naturally aspirated engine has a maximum output of 746 kW (1015 hp). The maximum speed is 250 km / h with the engine throttled. The vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 3.7 seconds. The maximum torque is 1356 Nm at 4300 rpm.

The interior of the Sixteen

The conception of the vehicle is slightly based on the Cadillac V16 from the 1930s. The body picks up stylistic elements of the 2003 Cadillac “Art and Science” design and echoes of the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado . Other elements come from an in-house competition under the direction of GM Vice President Robert A. Lutz . Special features of the interior design of the Sixteen are the eye-catching logo on the steering wheel, which is milled from a solid crystal, and a Bulgari clock in the dashboard.

Although the Sixteen did not go into series production, it served as an important technology and image carrier in the following years. Above all with its design language, it influenced the following generation of Cadillacs, especially the revised CTS . From 2005 there were rumors that a smaller version of the Sixteen would be built as ULS (Ultra Light Sedan) or XLS (Extra Light Sedan) with a V8 engine or, if desired, with a V12 engine, which was neither denied nor confirmed by GM. A new representation model was announced for 2010, although it remained unclear to what extent it would be similar to the Sixteen.

Now, that means that this two-and-half ton twenty-foot-long car will do 20 mpg, which is actually very impressive. "
