The Cadillac Orleans was a concept car that the Cadillac -Division of General Motors developed for the automotive exhibition 1,953th It was the first four-door hardtop . With a hardtop there are no B-pillars like most contemporary production models. The Orleans was powered by a V8 engine with an output of 210 bhp (154 kW) and was never mass-produced. The innovations in this design were not used until 1956 in the Sedan DeVille . The car also had suicide doors , a panoramic windshield , air conditioning and various security features. The doors could only be opened when the automatic selector lever was in the "N" position. Another luxury detail was an inverter with a transformer and a normal household socket , which made it possible to use normal electrical devices in the car. A razor , make-up case and mirror were stored in a shelf in the back of the car .
