history
The name Acceglio probably comes from the Latin ad cilium or the pre-Celtic ocelum or oscelum . The first written mention of the name took place in 1028. In the 13th century the place was owned by the Marquis of Saluzzo . Together with 12 other communities in the Maira Valley, he enjoyed a certain autonomy and was relatively independent of the rulers. Due to its proximity to France, the area was an important center of Calvinism in the 16th century .
