Stern of a Plymouth Prowler

The Plymouth Prowler is a sports car that was built by the US automobile manufacturer Chrysler from 1997 to 2001 . The name of the vehicle is derived from the English word "to prowl" (stroll around). After the parent company had given up the Plymouth brand in 2001, the car was offered as Chrysler Prowler in 2001 and 2002 .

The Prowler was a retro design homage to the classic American homemade hot rod . It was powered by the 3.5-liter V6 engine with 24 valves known from Chrysler's LH platform, which developed 160 kW (217 hp). In contrast to the sedans, the associated four-speed automatic was in a transaxle design on the rear axle and was connected to the engine via a cardan shaft rotating at engine speed.

Production began in March 1997 at the same plant where the Dodge Viper was manufactured. The equipment included two airbags, side impact protection, alarm system, CD audio system with seven loudspeakers and an automatic hood. The accessories program included a trailer in the Prowler design for holding luggage; the Prowler himself had no trunk. All copies of the first series were painted in Prowler violet.

In the spring of 1998, the production of the second generation Prowler began, which had the high-performance version of the 3.5-liter engine with 188 kW (256 hp).
