The Common Linnets ( English for The Bluthänflinge ) is the name of a band from the Netherlands , consisting of the Dutch singer Ilse DeLange and JB Meijers and the Americans Matthew Crosby and Jake Etheridge that the Euro Vision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen , the Netherlands took , but still as a duo there , consisting of Ilse DeLange and Waylon (actually Willem Bijkerk) .

The Common Linnets at the ESC 2014

The band was originally founded to perform a concert at the Tuckerville Festival in De Grolsch Veste in Enschede on June 21, 2014. The band name refers to the blood linnet, which is called Common Linnet in English . In November 2013, the responsible broadcaster nominated the Common Linnets for the Dutch contribution to the next Eurovision Song Contest.

In Copenhagen the band performed with the song Calm After the Storm and finished second with 238 points. This was the best result for the Netherlands since Teach-In won in 1975.

After the Eurovision Song Contest, Waylon was represented by Jake Etheridge at some appearances, which sparked speculation and searches in the Netherlands. On May 28, 2014, Waylon announced that he would leave The Common Linnets project and pursue his solo career. The appearance at the Tuckerville Festival on June 21, 2014, which was planned for the band's founding , still took place with the original line-up.

In October 2014 the Common Linnets received the European Border Breakers Award and in March 2015 they received an ECHO Pop in the category Newcomer of the Year (international) .
