The 71st presentation of the German Film Prize (Lola) is to take place on October 1, 2021. The gala award, which usually takes place in spring, was postponed to autumn 2021 by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the German film industry. The producer Nico Hofmann will act as the artistic director of the event .

The award is 2,955,000 euros , the most lucrative cultural award in Germany and, after a three-stage election by the members of the German Film Academy awarded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in up to 18 categories. The nominations were announced on August 19, 2021. Dominik Graf's historical drama Fabian or The Gang to the Dogs received the most mentions (10 nominations).
