Eschlkam is a market in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham .

geography

location

Eschlkam is located on the Chamb River in the Bavarian Forest . The municipality borders in the west on the city of Furth im Wald , in the south on the municipality Rimbach and in the southeast on the market Neukirchen bei Heiligen Blut (all district Cham ). In the north, Eschlkam borders the Czech minority town Všeruby .

Community structure

Eschlkam has 24 officially named municipal parts:

There are the districts Eschlkam, Großaign, Kleinaign, Schwarzenberg, Stachesried and Warzenried. Since the municipality of Warzenried was dissolved with the southern neighboring municipality of Neukirchen b. Holy Blood divided.

history

Eschlkam was first mentioned in a document in 1228. The settlement was the fortified center of the angle behind the Hohe Bogen .

The Margraves of Cham built a fortification and founded a market that traded with Bohemia .

Over the decades, Eschlkam was destroyed several times. Eschlkam was not spared from Hussite incursions in the period from 1420 to 1434 and from the Swedish War in March 1634. Among other things, the Swedes laid the nursing home in ruins, which was then no longer rebuilt. From the fortified church Eschlkam only remnants are available. The Hofmark Castle in Stachesried , which dates from the 17th century, is still preserved.

The border between Bavaria and Bohemia essentially determines the history of Eschlkam. On July 1, 1990, the Eschlkam- Všeruby border crossing was reopened. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain , Eschlkam has made great efforts to establish neighborly contacts with the communities on the other side of the border tree.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Schwarzenberg was incorporated. On May 1, 1978, Großaign and Stachesried and part of the former municipality of Warzenried were added.

Between 1988 and 2018 the population decreased from 3,460 to 3,364 by 96 inhabitants or 2.8%.
