Fading is a song composed Barbados coming singer Rihanna from her fifth studio album Loud . The song was written by Jamal James and Ester Dean , while the production of the song was done by Polow da Don .
background
The recording for Loud began in February 2010 and lasted six months. The works overlapped with her Last Girl on Earth Tour and the shooting of the film Battleship (2012) by making her film debut. In early March 2011, Rihanna asked her fans which single should be the next after " S&M " by Loud . Rihanna asked via Twitter if she should take “ Cheers (Drink to That) ”, “ Man Down ”, “ California King Bed ” or “Fading”. The song with the most votes should have its own video by the end of March. On March 12th, it was confirmed that California King Bed would be the next single in the United States. Internationally it served as the fourth single. In the United States, "Man Down" was also released before the official release of "California King Bed". In August 2011 a remix of "Fading" was produced by da Don and published on the Internet. Rumor has it that this would be the first single from the re-release of the album Loud , which was later canceled when Rihanna announced that the re-release would be canceled and instead of it, she will release her sixth studio album, Talk That Talk, in November 2011 .
Music and lyrics
"Fading" was written by Jamal James and Ester Dean , while the rest of the song was produced by Polow da Don . It samples Enya's “One by One” from her album A Day without Rain . The song was recorded by Sandy Vee at The Bunker Studio's in Paris, France in 2010. Musically, the song is performed by piano and violin while "fading" is textually through a female protagonist, her boyfriend because of a distant and fading ( fading leaves) relationship with him. The singing style of the lyrics urges her boyfriend to leave her and end the relationship: “ Go on, be gone, Bye bye so long […] Can't you see we're fading away ” (Eng. “ Break up, go away, a "bye bye" for a long time […] can't you see we're fading ”) As noted by NME's Emily Mackay , the song is reminiscent of“ Take a Bow ”, a previous Rihanna song in who also went wrong with the relationship. In terms of lyrical content and musicality, the two are very similar.
live performance
Although the song was never sung live on television, the song was on the setlist of selected dates from the Loud Tour in the summer of 2011. Rihanna sang the song on June 6th and 7th, 2011, at the Air Canada Center in Toronto , Canada by Jane Stevenson The Toronto Sun reported that after performing a selection of ballads from the singer's repertoire, including " Unfaithful ," " Hate That I Love You, " and " California King Bed, " Rihanna reappeared on stage wearing a rainbow colored feathered coat , Denim bra and shorts to “ What's My Name? ”,“ Rude Boy ”,“ Fading ”,“ Don't Stop the Music ”and“ Take a Bow ”.
