Farnese is a municipality with 1436 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio .
geography
Farnese is located 119 km northwest of Rome and 43 km northwest of Viterbo . It is located in the volcanic hill country of southern Tuscia , on the western slope of the Monti Volsini west of Lake Bolsena . The Selva del Lamone Natural Park takes up a large part of the municipality .
The neighboring municipalities are Ischia di Castro , Pitigliano ( GR ) and Valentano .

Farnese can be reached via the state road SS 312 Via Castrense, which leads from Lake Bolsena to Via Aurelia near Montalto di Castro .
history
The name Farnese is derived from the ancient name Castrum Farneti (Castle of the Oaks ). Farnia is the Italian name for the pedunculate oak . The place also gave its name to the resident Farnese family .

politics
Massimo Biagini elected Mayor on May 25, 2014. His citizens' list Progetto Comune per Farnese also has the majority in the municipal council with 7 out of 10 seats. His predecessor Alessandro Santi ( PdL ) was elected mayor in June 2009 and was no longer a candidate. He replaced Dario Pomarè (2004–2009), who was no longer a candidate.
