The film series The Fast and The Furious consists of several films that make use of elements of street racing , heist and agent film genre. All parts were produced by Universal Studios . So far the series has consisted of nine feature films, two short films and one animation series.

Due to the first offshoot Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw , which was released in German and American cinemas at the beginning of August 2019, the film Fast & Furious 9 , which was initially scheduled for April 2019, was postponed to May 2020. Fast & Furious 10 was still in April Its start date in 2021. Due to the corona crisis, the film release of Fast & Furious 9 was postponed to April 2021. As a result, Fast & Furious 10 lost its launch date.

Chronological course of action
Originally planned as self-contained films, after Tokyo Drift was completed, film director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan decided to unite the plot within the films. Fast & Furious 7 starts out parallel to the events in Tokyo and continues the film series after Han's death. The action sections in chronological order are as follows:
The Fast and the Furious
Undercover cop Brian O'Conner gains access to the illegal street racing scene and hopes to track down the perpetrators of several truck robberies. Despite a loss in the race, Brian gains respect from Dominic "Dom" Toretto, who is apparently involved in the raid series. Brian gets into a conflict because on the one hand his clients want to see the results of the investigation, but on the other hand a friendship with Dom develops. To make matters worse, Brian falls in love with Mia, Dom's sister. There is also an uproar between Brian and Vince, a loyal follower of Dominic.
To Mia's displeasure, Brian confesses his intentions and learns the location of the next attack. Brian can prevent this, whereupon Dom can flee with Mia. After the murder of Dominic's henchman Jesse, committed by a racing opponent, Brian Dom can be arrested, but at the last moment helps him to escape.
Turbo-Charged Prelude (short film)
This six-minute film was part of a special edition ("Tricked Out Edition") of The Fast and the Furious - DVD from 2003. Brian's life is told between the first and the second part of the series. In the face of an imminent arrest, he fled several detours to Miami. On his travels across the country, he repeatedly competes in car races and purchases the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, which plays a bigger role in the second film.
2 Fast 2 Furious
Brian was suspended from duty for helping Dominic escape. When he is later arrested in a street race, the officers force him to work as an undercover agent against the drug dealer Carter Verone. He and his old friend Roman Pearce can win Verona's trust and have the opportunity to arrest him and his henchmen. However, since Verone exposes Monica Fuentes, who also works as an undercover agent, the situation threatens to escalate. Brian and Roman can arrest Verone and free Monica.
Los Bandoleros (short film)

Dom is still on the run from the police and separates from his long-term partner Leticia Ortiz (Letty) in order not to endanger this and other team members. A little later Letty is murdered, which moves Dom to return to the United States.
Brian, now an FBI investigator, is looking for the drug lord Arturo Braga and can work for him as an undercover agent. Dominic, who swore vengeance for Letty's death, also gets a job at Braga in hopes of tracking down the killer. After a joint assignment, the situation escalates when Dom faces the alleged murderer Lettys, Fenix. Dominic and Brian escape Braga's henchmen after an explosion is caused. Gisele Harabo, a former employee of the drug gang, reveals Braga's whereabouts to Brian and Dominic. This allows them to arrest him.
In the end, Dominic kills Fenix and does not want to escape again. Although Dominic helped arrest Braga's drug gang, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Fast & Furious Five
A team of several, including Brian and Mia, are able to rescue Dominic from a prisoner transport. With this act Brian turns himself into a criminal, which causes the three to flee to South America. Once there, they take part in a robbery, instigated by Vince. This fails, which makes them not only the hunted by the local police, but also the client. Because DEA agents were killed in the attack , DSS agent Luke Hobbs now also joins the chase.
To end their existence as fugitives, they decide to carry out one last coup by plundering the money hiding places of Hernan Reyes, a seedy businessman. Thanks to a deception, they get Reyes to deposit his originally decentralized money in a safe. With the help of a put together team, the actors succeed in robbing the safe. After a daring escape, the team members start a new life with the stolen money.

Fast & Furious 6
After the successful coup from the previous film, Brian, Dominic and their team live a prosperous life, but cannot travel to their home country due to law enforcement. Hobbs offers the group to provide the criminal mercenary Owen Shaw and his entourage, including Letty, and guarantees them impunity and the associated opportunity to return home. The crew follows Shaw at several locations in Europe and Dom learns that Letty is working for Shaw after a memory loss. He wins a race against her and manages to bring back her memories piece by piece. She refuses to follow him and returns to Shaw. Although the crew finally manages to catch Shaw, they are betrayed by an accomplice and Shaw tries to escape on a military plane. While the machine rolls down the runway, the crew follows him and can prevent the machine from taking off. Hans's friend Gisele dies during this operation and the seriously wounded Shaw is arrested. Hobbs grants the entire crew the promised immunity.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Han integrates himself into Tokyo's street racing and drifting scene and has a business relationship with Takashi, also known locally as the "Drift King".
Sean Boswell is also traveling to Tokyo to avoid prison sentence in the United States. He quickly finds pleasure in the local tuning scene and gets into an argument with Takashi. With a Han vehicle, Sean competes against Takashi and loses miserably due to a lack of drifting skills. To settle the damage to Hans Auto, Sean works for him from now on. When Takashi finds out that Han has stolen from him, Han is involved in an accident in the ensuing escape and dies. This accident is willfully caused by Owen Shaw's big brother. Sean, who fell in love with Takashi's girlfriend, now also sees himself in danger. He arranges a race with Takashi on the condition that the loser leaves town. Sean defeats Takashi and can be celebrated as the new "Drift King". In the end he meets Dominic, who challenges him to a race.
Fast & Furious 7
Dominic and Letty are a couple again, with Letty having difficulties with the situation due to her amnesia and initially separating from Dominic. Brian and Mia (now parents of a son) enjoy their life in freedom when the idyll is disturbed: Dom receives a call from Tokyo and shortly afterwards a package bomb from Tokyo destroys his house. Deckard Shaw, who just killed Han in Tokyo, wants to get to the bottom of the crew that put his brother into a coma. Dom travels to Tokyo to get Han's corpse and meets - as can already be seen briefly at the end of Tokyo Drift - Sean Boswell, who gives him Han's personal belongings. Dom also gets Letty's necklace back that Shaw left with Han.
Back in the USA, Dom wants revenge for Hans death and a hunt begins, in which the terrorist Mose Jakande also intervenes. This is after a highly intelligent computer chip "The Eye of God" and the hacker Ramsey, who can operate it. Mr. Nobody, a government agent, also wants the chip. He offers Dom a deal: If he gets the eye, he can use it to capture Shaw. With a daring maneuver, the crew ambushes a convoy in a pass in the Caucasus Mountains and frees Ramsey.
The chip itself is in Abu Dhabi in the skyscraper of a rich prince - built into a Lykan HyperSport. Brian and Dom steal the sports car and jump with it through three skyscrapers before they can remove the chip, just before the car crashes. After some back and forth, the crew, with the help of Agent Hobbs, succeeds in catching Shaw and killing Jakande. In the end, Letty remembers everything - including the fact that she and Dominic got married in the Dominican Republic. The necklace she had lost to Owen Shaw and which Deckard Shaw left with Hans Wagen served as a kind of wedding ring for Dom and Letty. The crew also realizes that Brian must now focus on the family, because Mia is pregnant again. Brian and Dom drive side by side to a fork in the road, where they part ways.
Fast & Furious 8
A cyber terrorist named Cipher surprises Dom and Letty on their honeymoon in Havana . She makes it clear to Dom that she has kidnapped his former love Elena and that she has a son with Dom. She threatens Dom with harming them both if he doesn't obey her every command. On Cipher's orders, Dom turns against his team and steals an EMP weapon and nuclear codes for Russian nuclear missiles for them. After Dom does not fully obey one of Cipher's orders, she kills Elena. In Siberia , he is said to be stealing a submarine equipped with nuclear weapons. There he is stopped by his old team, which has allied itself with archenemy Deckard Shaw. Shaw manages to free Dom's son from the clutches of Cipher, who now has no leverage against him. Dom destroys the submarine, but Cipher escapes. In the end, everyone celebrates together on the roof of a house in New York. Dom announces that his son's name is Brian.
Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw
MI6 agent Hattie Shaw, Deckard's sister, secures a deadly virus in London that the cybernetic terrorist Brixton and his organization Eteon want to use to exterminate the weaker half of humanity and thus artificially advance evolution. With Hattie being staged as a renegade across MI6 by Eteon, her brother and Luke Hobbs are set to track her down. They succeed in doing this very quickly, but Hattie can convince both of their innocence. From Professor Andreiko, the inventor of the virus, the three learn that the only machine that can extract the virus from Hattie's body is located near Moscow at the Eteon headquarters. So the three break into the facility, fight their way through the mercenaries and finally flee with the broken device. Since Eteon has now also staged Deckard and Luke Hobbs as apostates, the three of them flee to Samoa, Hobbs' home. There, Luke's brother Jonah can repair the machine and remove the virus from Hattie's body. At the same time, the Hobbs clan can overwhelm the Eteon supporters, while Luke and Deckard can jointly defeat Brixton.
Recurring elements
Although different topics are often dealt with in the individual films, some elements can be found in almost all films:
- With the exception of parts 2 and 3 ( Tokyo Drift ), as well as 8, Brian and Dom deliver a street race in all films, with Dominic usually being the winner in the comparison. Brian Dom often accuses him of driving unfairly. The merchandising produced different products, including video games:
- The arcade game The Fast and the Furious was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable

In addition, the film series is said to have shaped the orientation of the Need for Speed game series . While in this series mainly luxury cars were used until 2002 and tuning played a subordinate role, the developers took a new path with Need for Speed: Underground in 2003.
