The First Division 1916/17 was the sixth season in the history of the highest Maltese football league . The champions were for the first time FC St. George’s , which was able to prevail in a playoff against Sliema Wanderers .

The season was played in a simple round. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. If there was a tie, a playoff was played for the championship.
