history
The area of today's Heusweiler was settled as early as Roman and Gallo-Roman times, as evidence from this period shows. During the removal of the overburden over a quarry in the Axenbüsch district, today's Kirschhof, the remains of a large Roman " Villa rustica " were found in 1841 , and during the construction work for the Köllertal Railway in 1908/1909 a Gallo-Roman urn burial field was discovered.
Heusweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1274, when the Hof zu Huswilre was given as a fief to the brothers Boemund and Joffried, noblemen of Saarbrücken, from the county of Saarbrücken . When Ludwig the Black , Duke of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , robbed and plundered through the Köllertal, Heusweiler was completely destroyed in 1471. In the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) Heusweiler was again destroyed and almost depopulated, as a report by Saarbrücken rent master Klicker from 1635 shows.
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine and after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) it was incorporated into French territory . From 1798 to 1814 Heusweiler belonged to the canton Lebach in the Saardepartement . Mairies were formed under the French administration . The Mairie Heusweiler united even then substantially all the hamlets that today belong to the community Heusweiler. Only the places Kurhof, Obersalbach, and Niedersalbach belonged to the Mairie Sellerbach .
Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 , large parts of the Left Bank of the Rhine , including Heusweiler, became part of the Kingdom of Prussia on a permanent basis . The former Mairie Heusweiler became the Mayor's office in Heusweiler in the newly formed Saarbrücken district , into which Obersalbach, Kurhof and 1892 Niedersalbach were incorporated.
In 1935, the Heusweiler medium wave transmitter was built in Heusweiler ; it went into operation on December 23 and was at times the strongest medium-wave broadcaster on ARD.
On October 1, 1935, the neighboring communities of Berschweiler, Bietschied, Dilsburg, Hirtel and Rittershof were incorporated into Heusweiler. In 1936 the independent municipality of Salbach was created from the towns of Obersalbach, Kurhof and Niedersalbach .
The grave of the Soviet " foreign workers " who were employed in the mining and track construction of the Reichsbahn and died from 1942 to 1945 is located in the community cemetery in the Heusweiler district . In the district of Bietschied, people who were wanted by the National Socialists (shot down Allied combat pilots, fugitive prisoners of war, forced laborers) were hidden by the Junge Bundschuh escape helpers during World War II , in order to subsequently smuggle them abroad.
On January 1, 1958, the Salbach community was dissolved again and divided between the two successor communities of Niedersalbach and Obersalbach-Kurhof. In the course of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , today's community of Heusweiler was formed on January 1, 1974 from the formerly independent communities Heusweiler, Eiweiler, Holz, Wahlschied, Kutzhof, Niedersalbach and Obersalbach-Kurhof.

Culture and sights
Buildings
The Protestant parish church in the center of Heusweiler is worth seeing . The earliest evidence of the church comes from the 12th century. The parish "Husiler" was mentioned in 1330. In the course of the Reformation the church became Lutheran on October 31, 1575, documented in the parish register from 1576. The church was used by both denominations from 1685 until the new Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1862. During the renovation in 1911, the 15th century choir was retained. The original baroque nave from 1719 has been replaced. Sacristy and tower were added to the choir. The church entrance was designed in the classical style. The gravestone of Pastor Gustav Weber, who is driving the new building, is attached to the right of the entrance.
The Berschweiler oil mill (first mentioned in a document in 1472 as Lohmühle , current building built between 1767 and 1779) was driven by an overshot mill wheel. Their construction has largely been preserved.
Sports
TV Holz , whose volleyball women play as "proWIN Volleys" in the 2nd Bundesliga South , comes from the Holz part of the municipality .
FC Kutzhof comes from the Kutzhof district . The boules club Niedersalbach from the district of Niedersalbach plays in the pétanque Bundesliga .
The table football club Heusweiler was founded in 1962. One of the strongest team of table tennis clubs in Saarland is the DJK Heusweiler Tischtennis e. V.
The Kegelsportclub (KSC) Dilsburg 1970 was founded in 1970 through the merger of four bowling clubs. The women's team has been first class since 2000 and has been one of the top places in the bowling league for years. The men's team plays in the district class.
Economy and Infrastructure
media
The Heusweiler transmitter was the most powerful radio transmitter of the ARD , a medium wave transmitter on the frequency 1422 kHz of the Saarland radio . Up until 1994, the Europawelle Saar program was broadcast with 1200 kilowatts during the day and 600 kilowatts at night via its antenna system , consisting of two self-radiating transmission masts , each 120 meters high and isolated from the ground . The Deutschlandfunk program has been broadcast via this station since 1994 . The transmission power was 600 kilowatts during the day and night. The transmitter was switched off on December 31, 2015. In order to prevent the transmitter from interfering with the vehicle electronics, a wire network was stretched across the A8 federal motorway, which runs in the immediate vicinity of the transmitter . The transmitter masts were blown up in a controlled manner on September 21, 2018 and the wire network dismantled the following day.
The Göttelborner Höhe transmitter of the Saarländischer Rundfunk, established in 1959, is located in the area of the Wahlschied municipality and serves as the basic network transmitter for analog radio ( FM programs SR 1 Europawelle , SR 2 Kulturradio and SR 3 Saarlandwelle of the Saarland broadcasting company), as well as for the distribution of digital radio ( DAB / DAB + ) and digital television ( DVB-T2 HD ). The transmission mast has a height of 208 meters.

Heusweiler lies at the intersection of two federal motorways, namely the A 1 and the A 8 . Heusweiler has direct motorway access to Luxembourg via the A 8 ( Perl - Bad Reichenhall ) .
The Saarbahn , a rapid-transit railway, connects Heusweiler, which previously had no railway connection, with Saarbrücken via Walpershofen and Riegelsberg . After several delays, the section to Heusweiler was put into operation on October 30, 2011. The continuation of the Saarbahn to Lebach was realized on October 5, 2014 after years of construction.
