Kristýna Plíšková (born March  21, 1992 in Louny , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech tennis player . She is the twin sister of the former world number one in women's tennis Karolína Plíšková .

Career

Kristýna Plíšková, who started playing tennis at the age of four, already had great success as a junior. In 2010 she first reached the semi-finals of the junior competition at the Australian Open , before she triumphed in the junior women competition in Wimbledon that same year and rose to fourth place in the world junior rankings.

In 2006, Plíšková received a wildcard for qualifying for the WTA tournament in Prague , where it failed at the start to Kirsten Flipkens . She then played parallel to her junior career on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour and won her first professional title at the 2010 $ 50,000 tournament in Kurume after a three-set win in the final over her twin sister Karolína . In her subsequent debut in the main draw of a WTA tournament, also in Prague, where she was allowed to start with a wildcard, she lost in the first round to Anabel Medina Garrigues . In New York she was in the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and made it to the final round straight away.

In 2011 Plíšková was able to record her first victory in the main draw of a WTA tournament in Fez when she beat Renata Voráčová in the first round coming from qualifying . In Wimbledon she was able to qualify for the first time for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament in the same year, but was eliminated at the start against Marion Bartoli . Several years followed, in which Plíšková initially tried unsuccessfully to establish herself on the WTA Tour and to live up to expectations after her early successes as a junior. Only on fast rubbers was she able to land one or two respectable successes thanks to her serve strength. In Wimbledon 2012 she was able to celebrate her first success in the main round of a Grand Slam tournament in the first round against Polona Hercog before losing to Francesca Schiavone in round two . In 2013 she won the ITF $ 50,000 tournament in Limoges and the following year in Nottingham in a $ 75,000 tournament, her biggest title to date. Things went better for Plíšková in doubles, where she won three titles alongside her sister Karolina in 2013 and 2014. After their first triumph in Linz at the end of 2013, the two were also successful in Bad Gastein and Hong Kong the following year . Plíšková started the first half of the 2015 season strongly with three more ITF titles and reaching the third round of a Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon for the first time , but due to a weak second half, she also ended this season outside the top 100 in the world rankings.

In 2016 she caused a sensation at the Australian Open when she set a new WTA record in the second round against Monica Puig with a total of 31 aces in a main draw match. Nevertheless, Plíšková lost the game 7: 9 in the extension of the third set. After she advanced to the third round for the first time in Miami , she succeeded in the fall with victory at a tournament of the WTA Challenger Series in Dalian , where she benefited from an injury-related task Misa Eguchi in the final with a score of 2: 5 in the final set then the biggest title, followed three weeks later after a three-set win over Nao Hibino, her first triumph at a WTA tournament in Tashkent . In 2016, it ended a year in the top 100 in the world for the first time.

In 2017, after moving into the third round of Melbourne and her second WTA final in Prague , which she lost to Mona Barthel , Plíšková was even able to achieve her best world rankings in 35th place, but her results remained inconsistent. In the 2018 season, she only reached two quarter-finals in smaller WTA tournaments on the WTA Tour, but came to the quarter-finals in Charleston after defeating her compatriot Petra Kvitová and later in Madrid as a qualifier, the third round. In 2019, Plíšková reached the semi-finals in Lugano and Tashkent and advanced to the quarter-finals in Birmingham after her fifth win against a top 10 player, her twin sister Karolína, in which she was defeated by Barbora Strýcová . In addition, she won her fourth WTA title in doubles with Viktória Kužmová in Bucharest . She also finished in the world's top 100 for the fourth year in a row.

Kristýna Plíšková has only played once for the extremely successful Czech Fed Cup team , in 2017 in the semifinals against the USA , where she lost in doubles.

Kristýna and Karolína Plíšková have played in the German Bundesliga since 2013 for the Eckert Tennis Team, the 1st team of the TC Rot-Blau Regensburg , which was represented in the Bundesliga for the first time since the 2015 season after the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga South and is now In 2016 and 2017 he was a two-time German champion. Kristýna Plíšková is active for the TC Blau-Weiß Dresden-Blasewitz in the 2019 Bundesliga season .
