Löwenzahn is a ZDF television series with the aim of imparting knowledge to children and adults in an entertaining way. The series, which has been running since 1981, was made famous by Peter Lustig , who moderated it until the end of 2005. In October 2006, Guido Hammesfahr took over the moderation of the show as Fritz Fuchs. The title melody comes from Matthias Raue and Martin Cyrus.

Previous show Dandelion

Predecessor sending dandelion was the turn dandelion , whose premiere took place on 7 January 1979th

In this series, in contrast to the later show Löwenzahn , Peter still lived in a house in Bavaria, but when the production company FiB had a dispute with ZDF, the series was discontinued and continued by Studio.TV.Film as a dandelion in a trailer. Since FiB the naming rights to dandelion possessed the mission had to be renamed. Twenty episodes of Dandelion were broadcast, two more ( 21 Peter storms the summit and 22 Peter and the baby seal ) were only released on video. In the first episode of Löwenzahn, Peter moves out because an approach lane runs directly over his house and he can no longer stand the noise. The first broadcast with the new title was on March 24, 1981.

The show Löwenzahn

target group

In contrast to Sesame Street ( ARD ), which also aims to encourage learning and is designed more for preschool children, Löwenzahn is aimed at children and adults. In an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung in 2004, Peter Lustig said: “We now know that our biggest fans are well over 30, as with the ' Sendung mit der Maus '. They saw the issues of 'Dandelion' 25 years ago as children and have remained loyal to us to this day. We receive emails every day confirming this to us. "

Concept and content

The original site trailer on the premises of the Babelsberg Film Park

Each episode of the show Löwenzahn consists of a framework story about Peter Lustig and the blue construction trailer. A specific topic is always dealt with and supplemented by films commented on by Peter Lustig, narrated picture stories or even songs. Peter Lustig often speaks directly to the viewer and includes them in the program. The basic concept of the series was thematized in the first episode ( Peter is moving ). In this context, the viewer is explained the basic principle of rules in aviation, shipping and railways.

To move out of his house, Peter Lustig acquires an old, blue construction trailer, which he drives with Trude and her red Beetle convertible onto a meadow in Elchwinkel 3 (today Elchwinkel 23) (see also production and locations ). This meadow plot is offered to Peter in episode 1 by Trude, who uses it as an allotment garden . There he begins to convert the trailer. Only with the material that is available, the old furniture from the house, the removed bathtub, etc., does Peter Lustig manage to accommodate a kitchen, a bedroom, a living room and a bathroom in and around the construction trailer. In this way, the audience was informed that supposed “junk” could still be used and that it was fun to question the existing, to come up with new ideas and to implement one's own plans and ideas in practice. This concept was retained for over 25 years and served as the basic concept for every program.

In the series, the moderator brings the viewers closer to both natural science and knowledge about animals or ancient cultures (for example the Romans ). The spectrum of topics is very extensive: from healthy eating, salt extraction from salt pans, traffic problems in the city, holidays on the farm to the stars at night and numerous other topics. For a long time, dandelion was also known as "stories from nature, the environment and technology".

In the program, certain topics were often discussed from an ecological point of view rather than from a different point of view, such as B. Economy, considered. The authors did not lack media criticism either. The young viewers should be introduced to the moderate use of television. Therefore, since the first episode of Dandelion at the end of the program , Lustig has asked - with a look into the camera and thus directly addressing the viewer - to no longer sit in front of the television, but to switch off the device.

Production and locations

At the beginning of the 1980s, the program's editors lived in Bärstadt im Taunus - not far from Mainz , the headquarters of ZDF . In addition, the production company Studio Heidelberg was located in a suburb of the university town, namely Altenbach (near Schriesheim ), 65 kilometers from Bärstadt. In the course of the first year of production, the fictional town on the edge of which the meadow property is located was given the name Bärstadt . However, the main location was Berlin and the surrounding area. So the trailer was in episodes of seasons 1, 2, 3 and 5 in the Berlin district of Heiligensee , in episodes of seasons 9, 10 and 11 in the Kornaue in Berlin-Wannsee and in most episodes of seasons 12-17 and 19-22 in Kleinmachnow .

From time to time, however, outdoor scenes were also shot in Heidelberg, Freiburg im Breisgau and Mainz. There were also locations further away. For example, episodes 69 (Peter dances on the volcano) and 83 (There's not water everywhere) were mostly filmed on the Canary Island of Lanzarote . Episode 109 (Peter on the high seas) was partially recorded on board the Finnjet , episode 121 (Peters Höhenflug) at Hannover Airport and episode 115 (Peter and the Spirit of Marksburg) at Marksburg . The current location is Hennigsdorf .

Construction trailer

The first construction trailer for Peter Lustig was designed by Klaus Fischer in 1980 and built by Clausing & Wrede. It was in use from 1980 to 2005 and was temporarily stored in a hall between filming. Today it is in the open air in the Babelsberg Film Park in Potsdam. It had a staircase leading to the roof terrace, a horizontally split door , a skylight, four outer drawers , a pull-up bed, a folding desk, wall cupboards , a kitchenette with two electric hotplates and a sink, an oven heater, the speaking doorbell “Klaus-Dieter” and an outside bathtub.

The second construction trailer for Fritz Fuchs was designed by Christoph Tillmann on the frame of an earlier toilet wagon and has been in use since 2006. In addition to the staircase leading to the roof terrace, it has a fire brigade sliding pole, a horizontally three-part door, a skylight, an indoor bathroom with a view, four outer drawers, a loft bed above the bathroom, a winter garden, a kitchenette with two electric hotplates and a sink, and a dining area.

There is also an event construction trailer that has been available for rent from the Himmel und Erde agency since 2000 . Instead of the chair stairs he has a staircase with railings, it is longer and the interior design is different from the original.

Finally, there is an almost faithful replica of the first construction trailer.

Peter Lustig's trademarks were his dungarees (of which there is a separate episode and which was still " with a punch " in the first year of production of the dandelion 1978/79 ), nickel glasses , a little beard (which was black in the 27 years of production and only a mustache , then gray and a full beard and finally white) and a bald head. In his everyday life, Peter Lustig always encountered problems and things that he did not understand, after which he began to investigate. He showed curiosity, open-mindedness, but also self-irony and wit. He visited factories , museums , theaters and laboratories . He went on expeditions to a mine, a Spanish-speaking volcanic area , to the zoo , to haunted castles or in his own garden. He baked bread, got cows to milk , pruned apple trees under the guidance of a fruit growers and was once even while dodging the bus caught. The figure should not be designed as perfect and omniscient, but neither should it appear too childish and too naive. Since Peter Lustig had a say in the development of the character of the same name (from 1983 he was also the author of many programs), he made sure that the character was always an adult "who has retained a curiosity without appearing childish", as he said himself. His farewell saying at the end of the program was in variations: "Now there's nothing more, so you can switch off."

The neatly trimmed garden of the neighbor Hermann Paschulke, played by Helmut Krauss, borders the overgrown meadow plot of Lustig . The figure has served as an alternative to the figure of Peter Lustig since 1981 (Peter and the long lines) . The neighbor is overweight, not interested in an ecological way of life, but wasteful and not very environmentally conscious, eats unhealthily, does not play sports, drives big cars, is afraid of spiders, always mows his lawn short and fulfills numerous clichés of a typical German philistine . Often it was Paschulke's "mistakes" that Lustig observed and that aroused his curiosity. Nevertheless, Paschulke was basically good-hearted and Lustig a good friend and neighbor, who sometimes complained about "noise" in Lustig's garden, on the other hand occasionally gave him a hand, helped him with his projects and experiments, and traveled with him.

Paschulke was still nameless in the first episodes, was initially called Opitz in one episode ( Peterchens Mondfahrt ) and only got a station on his later name in 1987 with Peter macht .

In one episode ( The Weed Gardener ) another neighbor with a similar character appears: Mr. Thoroughly, played by Wilfried Herbst .

Peter's aunt Elli ( Inge Wolffberg ), other relatives and friends as well as experts on the respective topics also appeared in supporting roles . Every now and then they were real professionals, otherwise they were portrayed by actors, etc. a. by Heinrich Schafmeister . In the first episodes, Ute Fitz-Koska appeared as a sisterly friend Trude.

Another figure was the Klaus-Dieter made by Peter, a kind of robot that hung on Peter's construction trailer near the entrance and whose body consisted of a ukulele , two light bulbs for the eyes and the arm of a doll. Peter's activities were often ironically commented on by Klaus-Dieter.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the feature film Löwenzahn - The Film: The Journey into Adventure was made in 2005 , which tells a coherent story and can also be broadcast as a three-part series. Here Peter is offered a castle to replace his property. After signing the contract, this turns out to be a trick of a construction lion (played by Dietmar Bär ) who sabotages Peter's efforts to withdraw from the purchase. At the end of 2005, Lustig withdrew from production due to health problems. To say goodbye, a dandelion night was broadcast in 2005, as it had been 5 years earlier for the 20th anniversary of the series . Lustig moderated it from his house near Husum. Even after Lustig's departure in episode 200, Helmut Krauss continued to play as Mr. Paschulke in the series.

After Peter Lustig's death on February 23, 2016, ZDF showed a long dandelion night with classic Peter Lustig episodes on the night of the following Saturday (February 27) to Sunday (February 28) . A selection of episodes with Peter Lustig was shown until autumn 2017 and will be shown on ZDF as Löwenzahn Classics on Sunday morning from the end of May 2018 , right after the new episodes with Fritz Fuchs.

Löwenzahn with Guido Hammesfahr as Fritz Fuchs

With episode 201 in October 2006, the actor Guido Hammesfahr , known from the Sat.1 comedy series Ladykracher , succeeded Peter Lustig in the role of Fritz Fuchs. The fictional location Bärstadt and the stubborn neighbor Paschulke ( Helmut Krauss ) were preserved. As a result of the change of moderator, the pilot film Verblüffende Aufcovery in Bärstadt was created , which also tells a coherent story and which can also be broadcast as a two-parter. Fritz Fuchs discovers Peter Lustig's abandoned, dilapidated site trailer. Why he left the trailer and what became of him is not explained. He is enthusiastic about the refinements of his predecessor and decides to move in here. But there are also other interested parties. The scrap dealer ( Ralf Richter ) does everything to get the trailer. At the beginning, Paschulke is against Fritz moving in, but when the dealer urinates into the water sample to prevent the move, he too is for Fritz.

According to the broadcaster, the new episodes with Hammesfahr are “faster, more action-packed, more mobile and with more action”. In addition, the sportiness, thirst for action and the quick-wittedness of Hammesfahr, born in 1968, should flow into the modernized program. Like Peter Lustig, Hammesfahr always says goodbye to the audience with the same slogan: “I don't know what you're doing, but Keks and I, we're going to do another round.” Then he makes a hand gesture by saying switching off by means of a rotary knob, as we know it from old televisions before the 1970s, imitates.

With the introduction of the new main character Fritz Fuchs, Fritz's sister Suse Fuchs-Liebig ( Eva Mannschott ), kiosk owner Yasemin Saidi ( Sanam Afrashteh ) and his Bernese Mountain Dog Keks appear regularly in new supporting roles. Yasemin's last name in the earlier episodes is Demirkhan and has Persian roots, her parents are from Iran. She owns the kiosk near the site trailer. She has been Fritz's best friend from the start and they both help each other when there are problems. She has a nephew named Hadi and a little niece. She often quotes her grandma Saidi, of whom she also has one or the other exotic treasure, such as a baking book with oriental baked goods.

Since 2012, Fritz's family has been expanded to include his creative, chaotic cousin Charlie ( Géraldine Raths ). She always has very big dreams and big ideas, but then messes up a lot of things around her. In addition, Heinz Kluthe ( Holger Handtke ) from the Bärstädter Ordnungsamt joined in 2012 . He is the exact opposite of Fritz and Charlie and is always very precise, meticulous and orderly and has a great fear of germs. In the episode Criminalistics - The Wrong Hare , Holger Handtke also appears in the role of Heinz Kluthe's twin brother Horst, who is wanted as a bank robber, in addition to the role of Heinz Kluthes.

In individual episodes, prominent actors and comedians can be seen in supporting roles, such as Piet Klocke as an insect collector, Hans Werner Olm as a caretaker and as a cleaning lady (as Luise) in a double role in a string museum, Ralf Schmitz as a model boat freak, Dietmar Huhn as a forester, Bernhard Hoëcker as salesman, Tom Gerhardt as caretaker and Gayle Tufts as spider expert. In October 2007 Peter Lustig appeared one last time in the episode Lifestyle - Time Travel in Bärstadt .

On May 17, 2020, the episode Endlessly Durable - When Neighbors Become Friends for the First Time, which is intended as an homage to the 40 years with neighbor Paschulke, in which the series also says goodbye to him at the same time. In this episode, Paschulke is on vacation on the Pacific island of Tonga and decides not to return to Bärstadt, but to stay on Tonga. His nephew David Paschulke inherits his property. The actor Helmut Krauss, who played the role of the neighbor Paschulke since 1981, died on August 26, 2019.

At the end of the program, in addition to Fritz Fuchs' farewell, you can also hear Peter Lustig's, which he himself said for over 25 years as a presenter.

  • As a running gag - since Peter Lustig - one of the outer drawers opens by itself and closes again.

in the middle

The television series mittendrin , produced for ZDF from 1988 to 1995 , was created as an offshoot of the series Löwenzahn .
