Lauf is a municipality in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg .

Lauf is located in the area of ​​the Black Forest Middle / North on the western slope of the Black Forest at the exit of the Laufbach Valley into the Upper Rhine Plain at an altitude of 200 to 1010 meters. The Laufbach , which gave the place its name, rises on the northwest slope of the Hornisgrinde .

Almost half of the municipality is forested. In the Laufbach valley and its side valleys, a large part of the original abundance of plant species, including flower meadows with some native orchid species, has been preserved.

history

The first documentary mention (as Löuffe ) took place in 1383 . The place initially belonged to the Imperial Austrian Landvogtei Ortenau . Since 1805 the community has belonged to the Grand Duchy of Baden , where it was assigned to the Bühl Office in 1807 , which in 1939 became the Bühl district . With its dissolution, the place came to the newly formed Ortenaukreis in 1973 .

The Laufer locksmith and Wehrmacht soldier Stefan Könninger made defeatist comments on the war situation in January 1944 and was denounced. He was sentenced to death by the Central Court of the Army for decomposing his military strength and executed in Berlin on August 21, 1944.

Culture and sights

Parish Church of St. Leonhard

The name St. Leonhard has been associated with the community of Lauf since 1648. At that time the first village church in Lauf was consecrated to St. Leonhard, the current parish church of St. Leonhard was built in 1882/84. The abbot Leonhard von Noblac was revered as a great benefactor and helper in need and as the patron saint of horses and cattle. The horse blessing and the Leonhardusritt commemorate Leonhard von Noblac in November.

Buildings

The Castle Neu-Windeck was built in 1300 and is considered a landmark of course. The castle is located on a hill in the middle of the village.

Lauf as a wine community has a wine trot from the 16th century that was discovered and renovated in the 1970s. It weighs almost 15 t and is in the Trotthaus .

The baroque Aubach Castle was built around 1720/30 and a neo-Gothic extension was added in the 19th century.

Sports and leisure facilities

A starting point for paragliders and hang-gliders is on the Sodkopf at the foot of the Hornisgrinde . Lauf is also the starting point for some mountain bike tours, circular hiking trails and Nordic walking routes.

Within walking there with the Neuwindeck school own primary school and with Ottersweier a common Werkrealschule . There is also a Roman Catholic kindergarten and a Roman Catholic day care center. In the latter case, the building is owned by the municipality.
