The 800-meter run for women at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held from August 26 to 28, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .

In this competition, the Soviet runners won two medals, gold and bronze. The European champion was the 1980 Olympic champion Nadija Olisarenko . She won ahead of Sigrun Wodars from the GDR. Bronze went to Lyubov Gurina .

Preliminary round

August 26, 1982

The preliminary round was carried out in three runs. The first five athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the fastest runners beyond that - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals.

Of the seventeen participants in this preliminary round, only one did not qualify for the next round. There was only a real elimination in the first two heats with six athletes each. of which the runner with the weakest time did not get any further. The participants in the third heat only had to reach the finish in order to automatically be in the semi-finals.
