Maine State House

The Senate of Maine ( English Maine State Senate ) is the upper house of the Maine Legislature , the legislature of the US state Maine .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 35 senators, each representing an electoral district. Unlike the Maine House of Representatives , the Senate does not have non-voting members for the indigenous population . Because the Maine Senate operates on a part-time basis, MPs usually have a side job. The Senate Boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Maine State House in the capital, Augusta .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories, as well as in the US Senate , the Maine Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Structure of the chamber

Maine is one of four states along with Arizona , Oregon and Wyoming that do not have a lieutenant governor . This incumbent acts as the head of the respective Senate in the other upper houses of the states. Instead, Maine has its own Senate President.
