Mario Mandžukić [ ˈmandʒukitɕ ] (born May 21, 1986 in Slavonski Brod , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian football player who was last under contract in Qatar at al-Duhail SC . From 2007 to 2018 he played for the Croatian national team , with which he was runner- up at the 2018 World Cup.

Mandžukić came to Ditzingen near Stuttgart in 1992 as a refugee child from Slavonski Brod in Croatia . There he developed his football skills at TSF Ditzingen . In 1996 he and his parents had to leave Germany and return to Croatia. There Mandžukić played in Slavonski Brod for the NK Marsonia Slavonski Brod until he was loaned to the NK Željezničar Slavonski Brod for the 2003/04 season. He then played another year for Marsonia and then moved to NK Zagreb , from where he moved to Dinamo Zagreb after two years . With Dinamo he became Croatian champion and cup winner in 2008. In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons he played with Dinamo in the UEFA Cup . VfL Wolfsburg
