Meteor Ireland Music Awards
The Meteor Ireland Music Awards ( The Meteors for short ) is a music award given to artists for their success in Ireland and internationally. They were awarded annually from 2001 to 2010 and replaced the IRMA Ireland Music Awards .
In January 2011, the organizers announced that the award ceremony would not take place this year after Meteor ended its sponsorship .
history
The Meteor Ireland Music Awards are comparable to the Juno Awards in Canada , the US Grammy Awards , the UK BRIT Awards and the Echo in Germany . They are named after their sponsor, Meteor Mobile Communications Ltd.
The annual award ceremony consisted of a series of live performances as well as the actual award ceremony. It took place at the Point Theater from 2001 to 2007 and at the RDS Simmonscourt Concert Hall in Dublin from 2008 to 2010 .
The laudators were both Irish and international musicians, athletes, personalities from film and television, as well as models, such as B. Joe Elliott, Denis Hickie, Colin Farrell , Alex Zane, and Rosanna Davison . A number of different personalities have hosted the celebration over time, including Ed Byrne, Patrick Kielty, Amanda Byram, the dolls Podge and Rodge along with Deirdre O'Kane and Dara Ó Briain , who has played the role for the last three years.

In: The Irish Times , Irish Times Trust, February 24, 2011. “There are no Meteor Music Awards this year after the mobile phone operator decided to cease sponsoring the event. However, the brand, which is 10 years old, says the awards will return in 2012, with Meteor as the primary sponsor. The televised awards were Meteor's most visible sponsorship and tied in with the company's strategy of recruiting younger customers. "
