Michael Bruner

Michael "Mike" Bruner (born July 23, 1956 in Omaha ) is a former American swimmer .

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal he was the 200 m butterfly Olympic champion and he won the gold medal with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Two years later he became the 200 m butterfly world champion at the 1978 World Swimming Championships in Berlin . Due to the Olympic boycott of the United States, he was unable to defend his two Olympic titles at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . But he was voted America's Swimmer of the Year that year .

In 1988 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
