The competition for Miss Europe 1976 was the twenty-seventh since 1948 that the Mondial Events Organization (MEO) organized. (The events in 1951 and 1975 were canceled, the latter because of the civil war in Lebanon ). The organization was founded by the French Roger Zeiler and Claude Berr, was based in Paris and held the competition until 2002.

The candidates had been selected in their countries of origin by national organizing committees that had concluded license agreements with MEO.
