Miss Spain is the German name for an annual national beauty contest in Spain . The official name of the competition and winner is Miss España (formerly also known as Señorita España ). The event has existed since 1929. However, the dancer and actress María Casajuana and 1928 Águeda Adorna took part in the election for Miss Universe in Galveston (Texas) as representatives of Spain. It is not known how they qualified.

From 1936, the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent dictatorship of Caudillo Francisco Franco caused an interruption for decades. It was not until 1960 that the general and head of state softened to allow competition again.

Nevertheless, in the years that followed, female candidates for Spain took part in the Miss Europe election: Antonia Arquès in 1936, Ambarina de Los Reyes in 1937 and Isa Reyes in 1938. It is not known where and how they qualified.
