Montet (Glâne) is a municipality in the Glane district in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland .

geography

Montet (Glâne) lies at 652  m above sea level. M. , 10 km southwest of the district capital Romont and 3 km south-southeast of Moudon (air line). The farming village extends on the upper eastern slope of the Broye , in the southwest of the Freiburg Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 2.2 km² municipal area comprises a section of the Molasse hill country in the border area of ​​the cantons of Friborg and Vaud . The western border runs along the Broye, which has cut a deep valley into the molasse layers here over the course of millions of years. From the Broye, the communal soil extends east over the steep slope to the terrace of Montet, which is divided into a northern and a southern half by the village stream of Vuarmarens. Above Montet (Glâne) is on the slope of the hill En Ardra with 710  m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of the municipality. To the south the area extends to the forest of La Crêta . In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 21% in forests and woodlands, 73% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

With 385 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Montet (Glâne) is one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg. 97.1% of the residents are French-speaking and 2.9% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Montet (Glâne) was 164 in 1850 and 148 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century the population fluctuated between 110 and 150 people. Only since 1980 (126 inhabitants) has a significant increase in population been recorded.

Up until the second half of the 20th century, Montet (Glâne) was a predominantly agricultural village. history

The municipality of Montet (Glâne) was settled very early, which has been confirmed by finds dating from the Bronze Age . The first written mention of the place took place in 1255 under the name Montez . Montet is a diminutive form of the French word mont (mountain).

Together with Vuarmarens, Montet (Glâne) formed the small lordship of Villardin (also called Montet-Villardens ) from the Middle Ages , which had belonged to different lords since the 13th century. The castle on the heights above the Broye was destroyed in the 16th century and has now disappeared apart from a few remains of the wall.

When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, Montet (Glâne) came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. Montet (Glâne) does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Ursy-Morlens.
