As NUTS: TR or NUTS regions in Turkey is referred to the territorial organization of Turkey according to the European Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) .

Basics

In Turkey, the three NUTS and two LAU levels are covered as follows:

  • NUTS-1: 12 Bölgeler (statistical regions)
  • NUTS-2: 26 Alt bölgeler (subregions)
  • NUTS 3: 81 İller (Provinces, Governments)
  • LAU-1: 923 İlçeler (districts)
  • LAU-2: 37.675 Köyler (villages)

The Bölgeler largely correspond to the Coğrafi bölgeleri (geographical areas) , but adhere to the provincial borders, and partially subdivide them so that there are twelve statistical instead of seven geographical areas ( Istanbul also counts independently).

In Turkey the “municipality” is not determined as such, there is Belediye as a municipality (over 5000 inhabitants). The Köy is headed by a village council. Among them there are still Mahalle as not independent small towns.
