Neustadt am Main

Neustadt am Main (officially: Neustadt a.Main ) is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart and a member of the Lohr am Main administrative community .

Geographical location

Neustadt a. Main is in the Würzburg region. The topographically highest point of the municipality is at 553  m above sea level. NN (location) at the summit of the monastery dome , the lowest is in the Main at 147.1  m above sea level. NN (location) . The monastery dome is the highest elevation in the Main-Spessart district, which lies entirely within the district. The Silberlochbach rises nearby and flows through Neustadt am Main.

Surname

etymology

From what the original place name Rorinlacha is actually derived is not exactly known. There are two possible theories:

• It consists of the Old High German words řorīn and lahha . It means "a swamp overgrown with reeds ". This root of the name can also be found in the name of Erlach ( erl lahha ).
• It consists of the personal name "Roggo", a relative of Megingaud, and "Lacha" for a delimited area. After that it means place of the Roggo .

With the establishment of the monastery on the "New Place" the place was first called Niuwenstat, then Neustadt. It consists of the Old High German words niuwe and stat . The same root of the name can also be found in the nearby town of Neuendorf . The addition on the Main distinguishes Neustadt from other places of the same name.

history

Until the church is planted

The Benedictine monastery Neustadt am Main was founded before the year 769. It was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization .

As part of the Rothenfels office of the Würzburg monastery, the place fell to the princes Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803. After being mediatized in 1806 by the Principality of Aschaffenburg, it fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1814, together with the Principality of Aschaffenburg (now a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818.

Administrative history

In 1862 the district office Lohr am Main was formed, on whose administrative area Neustadt was located. In 1871 Neustadt came to the Marktheidenfeld district office on the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices , but returned to the Lohr district office on January 1, 1880. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Neustadt was then one of the 26 communities in the Lohr am Main district . With the dissolution of the Lohr am Main district, Neustadt am Main became part of the newly formed Mittelmain district on July 1, 1972, which was given its final name Main-Spessart district ten months later .

Incorporations

The municipality of Erlach am Main was incorporated into Bavaria on May 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform .

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the number of inhabitants stagnated (specifically, it fell from 1270 to 1267 by 3 inhabitants or 0.2%).

Economy and Infrastructure

According to official statistics, there were 39 employees at the place of work in the manufacturing sector and 22 in the trade and transport sector. In other economic areas 39 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 474 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were four companies in the manufacturing sector and one in the construction sector. In addition, there was a farm in 1999.
