It premiered on August 15, 1974 at the Colosseum Cinema and the Soria Moria Cinema in Oslo . The Norwegian crime comedy by Knut Bohwim is a remake based on the Danish film The Olsen Gang and their big coup .

action

Benny and Kjell have to after the failed coup before the robbed merchant in a fountain in Gustav Vigeland Sculpture Park of Frognerparks hide.
In the Oslo Grand Hotel , the king and the squire lodge with the booty of the Olsen gang in the Royal Suite.

Egon has a plan for a surefire break-in in an upscale neighborhood. Egon and Benny enter the apartment of a successful lawyer through the window while a football match between the Norwegian national team and Sweden is being broadcast on television with an apparently partial referee who is also a Dane . The lawyer and his wife are so captivated by the game that they do not notice how Egon bags their precious silverware and lets it down to Kjell, who is waiting in front of the house. Nevertheless, the coup ends twice without success for the Olsen gang: The bag with the booty is taken from Kjell by two competitors of the Olsen gang, the "King" (Kongen) and the "Knappen" (Knekten); and after a picture disturbance on television, the lawyer notices Egon, who is then arrested again. Egon Olsen is coming back to Botsfengselet in Oslo .

After his release from prison, Egon explains his new plan to Benny and Kjell: He wants to make it easier to transport money by four million crowns. The armored money transporter is accompanied by a police escort, so that it actually seems almost impossible to rob it. Together with Basse, however, Egon's plan succeeds flawlessly. In Kjell's apartment, Benny, Kjell and Valborg had heated discussions about the use of the money. Valborg needs it for Basses impending confirmation. However, Egon doesn't want to hear about any of these discussions and therefore decides to hide the money for now. Together with Kjell and Benny, he visits an outdoor swimming pool, where he hands over the suitcase to the lifeguard for safekeeping. The Olsen gang is observed by Jenny, the squire's beautiful sister.

Some time later, while strolling through the city center, Egon, Benny, Kjell and Valborg can watch the king, the squire and Jenny pull up in a luxury limousine in front of the Oslo Grand Hotel . When Benny recognizes "the little one from the swimming pool" in Jenny , a terrible suspicion grows in Egon. Another visit to the outdoor pool brings certainty: the money has been stolen.

There is great dejection in the gang. Benny and Kjell try to rob a grocery store, but unfortunately Kjell's mishap goes wrong. When escaping from the grocery store , they have to hide in a fountain in Frognerpark , only to come home as a watered poodle with their only prey, a tin of fish dumplings. Egon, on the other hand, spies on the king and watches him deposit the suitcase in the safe of a bank. He gives the police an anonymous tip, whereupon Detective Inspector Hermansen fetches the suitcase from the bank's vault . However, Egon succeeds in exchanging it for a fake suitcase that only contains worthless telephone books. The new chief of police, who carefully monitors the police's public impact, has rushed to schedule a press conference. When he opens the suitcase in front of the television cameras, he makes himself a mockery of the public. Egon had also called the King and the Squire at the Grand Hotel beforehand so that they could see this press conference and notice that they are no longer millionaires. The king immediately recognizes who is behind it: "Olsen". He then sends the squire to the home of the Olsen gang in Kjell's apartment. Meanwhile, after a bank clerk recognized Egon in the criminal record, Hermansen went to Kjell's apartment and ran into a search with the neighbor. He learns from the neighbor that the Olsen gang wants to leave for Mallorca and informs his boss that he is finally responsible for the money robbery. This time the police chief invited the press directly to the airport in order to put themselves in a good light again. After the Olsen gang was arrested and thoroughly searched, the police again embarrassed themselves in front of the press. The police chief is angry and suspends Hermansen from duty and explains that he can no longer be used by the police.

The squire arrives at the Olsen gang's house shortly after Hermansen is gone and completely devastates Kjell's apartment in search of the money. He then receives the suitcase from the unsuspecting neighbor. Ultimately, this case also turns out to be wrong. The police chief also visits the Jensen's apartment after the failure at the airport. At the sight of the devastation, he considers it to be the work of Hermannen, who has already repeatedly exposed him to public ridicule.

After their release at the airport, Egon, Benny and Kjell pretend to flee to Mallorca by checking in at Oslo airport but actually getting on another plane. They plan to parachute out of this plane shortly after take- off in order to land near Oslo. Hermansen, who desperately ponders his failure at the airport, observes this and steals an off-road vehicle from the airport police. He followed the Olsen gang, following the direction of flight of the aircraft, on the country road, to the gang's alleged jump point at a racecourse . Hermansen only meets Benny and Kjell there and not Egon, who has ended up in a different place. Benny and Kjell trick Hermansen and steal his off-road vehicle in order to pick up Egon on the way. Hermansen does not give up and continues the chase with a racehorse. He gets into a police check before he can catch the Olsen gang in their hiding place. His boss, who joins them, does not respond to any explanations from his employee and has him carried away in a straitjacket. Egon, Kjell and Benny see this when they drive past in the off-road vehicle. At the airport, Valborg and Basse are supposed to wait with the right suitcase for the Olsen gang, from where they want to flee with a later plane. At the same time, Jenny was watching a TV report in the Oslo Grand Hotel about current arrival delays and long waiting times when checking out at Oslo Airport. She happened to see Valborg and Basse on the screen as they were handing over the suitcase to a luggage storage facility. She leaves the hotel immediately and heads for the airport . She claims to have lost her luggage ticket and so swindles her suitcase. However, the king and the squire no longer manage to break away from their luxury suite because they are without money and have drawn the mistrust of the hotel staff.

When they arrive at the airport, the Olsen gang notices that their money is gone and that Valborg has also disappeared from the agreed meeting point. As she learned from Basse, the chief of police took her to speak to her about the events in her apartment that Hermansen was accused of. Benny and Kjell are now giving up and going home with Basse. Egon tries to snatch the suitcase from Jenny on the gangway of her plane and is arrested by the airport police. Jenny travels to Mallorca with the money, while the king and squire have to work off their debts as dishwasher in the kitchen of the grand hotel in Oslo. The Olsen Gang's trip to Mallorca falls into the water for the time being. The chief of police ensures that Kjell's home furnishings are completely renewed, as he still considers Hermansen to be the cause of the devastation. Valborg can now calmly take care of the preparations for Basse's confirmation, while Egon drives back to the Oslo state prison.

meaning

With this film, the plot pattern, which also shaped the dramaturgy in the Norwegian Olsen Gang films of the following years, was further consolidated. With Basse's confirmation, Valborg is occupied for the first time with a task to which she repeatedly admonishes the men. The resulting conflicts are a typical feature of the later Olsen Gang films.

The Danish original version of the film The Olsen Gang and their Great Coup was also published in Denmark in 1977 in the form of a comic with drawings by Otto Frello . While the 48-page comic album sold sluggishly at the time, it is now a collector's item. The album was published in 2008 by Holzhof-Verlag Dresden , on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Olsen Gang, with extensive additional and background material also in German.

Reviews

“If you like something like that ... - It's not really fun. The actors do their best, but what kind of script is that you've been given? There is not just a single oral punchline in it. The lyrics are heavy and humorless, people talk for the sake of talking. (…) In addition, the conflicts between the Olsen gang and their two rivals are gradually getting boring. (...) Anyone who likes something like that gets to see many beautiful pictures from Oslo, thanks to Mathis Mathiesen, who was behind the camera. "
