The 800-meter race of women in the 2012 Olympic Games in London was on the 8th, 9th and 11th August 2012 at the Olympic Stadium London discharged. 45 athletes took part.
The South African Caster Semenya won the gold medal ahead of the Russian Yekaterina Poistogowa and the Kenyan Pamela Jelimo .
Athletes from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein did not take part.

doping
There were two doped finalists in this competition.
- In 2013, Jelena Arshakova , who came in sixth place in 1: 59.21 min, was banned from her biological passport due to abnormal values. Your result was subsequently canceled.
- On November 9, 2015, the Russian Marija Savinova was also stripped of her originally won gold medal by the IOC for doping abuse.
There is also a shadow on the third Russian's silver medal. In 2017, Yekaterina Poistogowa was banned from the International Court of Sports for two years for doping abuse with retroactive effect from 2015.

Six preliminary runs were carried out. The first three athletes of each run qualified for the semi-finals. In addition, the six fastest drivers, the so-called lucky losers , made it through. The directly qualified runners are highlighted in light blue, the lucky losers in light green.
