In 1922 the area was administratively formed into Otorohanga County and in 1956 it was merged with the northern half of Kawhia County . In 1971, Otorohanga County and the Borough of Otorohanga were combined to form the County of Otorohanga and renamed Otorohanga District with a District Council in 1979 .
