Paola (1980)

Paola Felix (born October 5, 1950 in St. Gallen as Paola Maria Augusta del Medico) - formerly known as Paola Del Medico , later just as Paola - is a Swiss pop singer and television presenter .

Life

Paola Felix is the daughter of the master tailor Vittorio Del Medico, who comes from the Italian Adriatic town of Fano , and the Swiss Anna Sennhauser. She has Italian and Swiss citizenship. Her musical training included two years of flute, five years of piano and guitar she taught herself. In addition, Paola took singing, ballet, step and acting lessons. She speaks German, Italian, Spanish, French and English.

Career

singer

Paola had her first public appearance in 1964 at the Concorso Musicale Per Dilettanti in the Congresshaus St. Gallen - an amateur festival at which she took fourth place with the title Non ho l'eta by Gigliola Cinquetti. Only one year later she won the Disco D'Oro (Golden Record) in her hometown of St. Gallen.

In the following years she took part in various talent competitions, such as the Blick Festival, in which she mostly won one of the first places. In the same year, she was able to secure second place at the German Schlager Competition in Wiesbaden with Still Waters, which are deep . In 1970 Paola took part in the musical Eusi chlii Stadt in Zurich. In the following years she was also represented at national and international festivals, for example the fifth Festival Internacional da Canção in Rio de Janeiro (1970) with the title Emporte-moi sur ton manège and the Onda Nueva Festival in Caracas (1971) with the Title Tic Tac .

In 1974 Paola took ballet lessons with Samy Molcho and was able to book two smaller hits in Germany with the singles Capri-Fischer and Addio mein Napoli . Her appearance in Peter Frankenfeld's ZDF hit program Musik ist Trumpf with the song Weisse Rosen aus Athen brought her in 1975 a flood of audience requests for a single of this recording, so that her record company CBS decided without further ado to release the song in a new version as a single .

Paola had her greatest commercial successes with the German recording of Blue Bayou (7 times in the ZDF hit parade) - a song by Roy Orbison , which was first charted in 1963 and became a global success in 1977 in a version by Linda Ronstadt - and the single Der Teufel and the young man who was in the German top 10 for five weeks in 1981. Blue Bayou became, in a sense, Paola's signature song, which she performed in several versions on various matters. Lasting serenity caused her talk at the show for Karl Dall's 60th birthday , when she slipped off a "banana island". In 1990 Jack White produced with Paola Felix under the pseudonym Raffaella for Do you understand fun? a cover version of the baccarat song Yes Sir, I Can Boogie , which also became Paola's last music recording.

Eurovision Song Contest

In 1968 her first single was released for all times , with which she took fourth place at the Intervision Schlagerfestival in Karlsbad in the Czech Republic and second place in the Swiss qualifying for the Grand Prix Eurovision. In 1969 Paola del Medico took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid for the first time and finished fifth (after four first places) for Switzerland with Bonjour, Bonjour . In the Swiss hit parade it came to 7th place.

In 1977 she tried again at the Eurovision Song Contest, but only came in second behind the Pepe Lienhard Band in the Swiss qualifying with the title Le livre blanc . The same thing happened to her with the title Vogel der Nacht , with which she applied for German participation in 1979, but only achieved third place.

It was not until 1980 that she finally competed - again for Switzerland - with the title Cinéma at the Grand Prix and took fourth place at the international festival in The Hague . In 1982 Paola tried again for Germany in the preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . With the title Peter Pan she came in second behind Nicole . She remained loyal to the competition when she took over the moderation of the Swiss qualification for the Song Contest in 1986.

watch TV

Paola had her first television appearance in 1967 in the Swiss show Talents introduce themselves with the title Lui by Rita Pavone . In the following years she was a permanent guest on the ZDF hit parade and other television programs in Germany and Switzerland. In 1971 she sang in the television operetta Die Blume von Hawaii (ZDF). In 1972 Swiss television broadcast its first special program - the P.-P.-Show - with Paola and Pepe Lienhard. Ten years later, the ARD followed suit with the special Melodien with Paola in the series Gute Laune mit Musik .

Together with her husband Kurt Felix, she first moderated the ZDF music show Songs Go Around the World (1982) , then the SWF evening series Friday Party (6 episodes in 1983) and finally from 1983 to 1990 the Saturday evening show Do you understand fun? . Paola gained further experience in moderation in the aforementioned preliminary decision for the Grand Prix Eurovision (1986), the Swiss television show Do you feel May? (1986) and various gala events.

In 1998, the MDR produced the show Good evening, Paola and Kurt Felix, a four-hour Saturday evening show with reprises from the couple's work. Due to the overwhelming success of the show, a second, also four-hour show with the two of them was broadcast on MDR television in 1999.

Paola withdrew from show business on her 40th birthday. Every now and then she can still be seen as a guest on talk shows or in music programs. For example, in 1998 she sang her hit Blue Bayou on the Swiss TV show Benissimo in a duet with Michael von der Heide .

In 2000 - on Paola's 50th birthday - she was celebrated again in the press, radio ( Paola day on DRS ) and television (special: Paola on Blue Bayou ; ZDF hit parade ; etc.). A CD with three previously unreleased songs by the singer was released for the special broadcast.

After several cancellations in recent years, Paola Felix appeared on the Helene Fischer Show on December 25, 2018 and sang her hit Blue Bayou in a duet with Helene Fischer on the 40th anniversary of her version of this song.
