Rize is a province in northeastern Turkey on the Black Sea . The provincial capital is the eponymous Rize . The province borders on Trabzon Province to the west, Erzurum and Bayburt to the south and Artvin to the east . The province has a coastline of about 90 km.
The province has 248,608 inhabitants (as of 2018), 103,145 of them in the capital Rize.

economy
The cultivation of tea plants and, in some cases, the cultivation of kiwi fruit are particularly important economically . The first tea plant cultivation in Turkey took place in 1937 in Rize. With a contribution of 66% to the 1.25 million tons of the total Turkish harvest (2012), the province of Rize is the largest tea plant cultivation area in Turkey.
traffic
The D010 ( E 70 ) trunk road , also known as the " Black Sea Coast Road ", runs parallel to the Black Sea coast . It runs from the province of Kars (near the Armenian border) to Karasu (province of Sakarya , near the city of İzmit ).
The D925 trunk road runs from İyidere in a south-easterly direction inland to Erzurum (212 km).
