|
Pforten is a district of the independent city of Gera in Thuringia .
Geographical location
Pforten is located between the center of Gera in the north and the Gera districts of Collis in the east and Zwötzen in the south. It is located on the lower reaches of the Gessenbach , which flows a little further west-northwest into the White Elster .
history
There was a fortification at the site of the manor named below. Before that, people had also lived on the summit area of the Pfortner mountain. It was Paleolithic stone tools. A hand ax was found on the north side, which confirms the thesis. Other finds were also recovered. Due to a quarry that was built later, the hill is no longer there.
Pforten was first mentioned in 1333 as Phorte and was the location of a manor. Wolfgang Kahl shows that August 19, 1219 was first mentioned in a document. Due to its proximity to the city of Gera, it was industrialized early on; Among other things, the Pfortener brewery was located here, which was in operation from 1864 to 1994. On January 1, 1919, Pforten was incorporated into the city of Gera together with numerous other places in the Gera area.

In 1836 the high level of jurisdiction was transferred to the Gera criminal court . The lower courts was made voluntary 1855th
The Pforten manor was created in 1662 from an inheritance division and was separated from the Kaimberg manor . It had been in the possession of the von Ende family since the 16th century , Seeligmann since 1715, Melzer since 1717, Ingersleben since 1721 , Beust since 1787 , Winckler since 1806, Ebeling since 1823, Taubenheim since 1834 and Spangenberg since 1853.

politics
Pforten has no district constitution , therefore no district council and no district mayor .
traffic
From 1901 to 1969 the Gera-Pforten station in Meuselwitzer Strasse was the terminus of the Gera-Meuselwitz-Wuitzer Railway ("Wuitz-Mumsdorfer"). The neo-Gothic brick building shows, especially on the back (former platform side) but also in many elements of its striking front with stepped gable and clock tower, large similarities to the Wörlitz train station in Dessau , which opened in 1894 and was also built by the construction company Vering & Waechter . From Pforten the railway line ran through the valley of the Zaufensgraben in a northeasterly direction.
Since November 2006, Pforten has been connected to the Gera tram network via tram line 1 ( Untermhaus- Heinrichstrasse-Zwötzen) .
