history
Robiac was an important railway junction until the middle of the 19th century, connecting the line to Le Teil (via Vogüé ) in the Ardèche department with the Alès - Bessèges line of the SNCF (still in service today) and the line to the coal mines of La Valette.
Bessèges , which was a hamlet of Robiac, was split off from Robiac in the middle of the 19th century due to its economic importance and made the capital of the canton.
After underground coal was mined industrially in the municipality in the 19th and 20th centuries, the population increased sharply.
