Attractions

Workers settlement

In 1912, the company was Société Française des maisons et constructions moulées established to from one piece cast concrete - Prefabricated houses to build. She used a liquid concrete that Thomas Alva Edison had developed for this purpose. Due to the high cost of the molds, this was only profitable if at least 50 houses were built at the same time. The first opportunity arose in Salindres, where a workers' settlement was to be built for an aluminum plant. A closed quarter (today: Quatier des maisons moulées ) with 56 individual houses was cast here in 1912–1914 . Four different types were used, mostly inexpensive, two-story semi-detached houses with four or five apartments each. The 18 single-storey houses, on the other hand, each contain a larger apartment with five rooms. These are the houses in the street grid Rue Jean-Baptiste Dumas, Rue Adrien Badin, Rue Sainte Claire Deville and Rue Pasteur with the crossing streets Rue du 19 Mars 1962, Rue de Verdun and Rue de la Marne . The world's first closed settlement made of cast concrete houses was built here.
