Until December 31, 2012, Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg was an independent political municipality in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld or in the Hartberg district in Styria ( Austria ). Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg merged with the municipality of Buch-Geiseldorf on January 1, 2013 . The name of the new parish is Buch-St. Magdalena .

Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg is located in the thermal region of the eastern Styrian hill country about eight kilometers southeast of the district capital Hartberg and about 45 km east of the provincial capital Graz . The former municipality lies between the Hartberger Safen and the Lafnitz , whereby only the Hartberger Safen affects the municipality. However, it is drained by its tributaries, and an extensive forest area extends to the east towards the Lafnitz valley .

During the municipality reform in Styria in 1968 , Hopfau came to St. Magdalena. The communities of Schölbing and Safenau , which border on the north-west of Hopfau, came to St. Johann and Hartberg, respectively, so that St. Magdalena never bordered on them.

St. Magdalena and Lemberg were built around the important church. There was already a school in the first half of the 18th century. 1788 locality, in 1892 the parish of Sankt Magdalena was established.

With the creation of the local congregations after 1848/49 , a congregation was set up that was initially called Lemberg , but then soon became Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg . The main town was always Lviv, which was larger at the time .

On January 1, 1959, the independent municipality of Weinberg was merged with Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg, during the municipality reform in Styria in 1968 , the municipality of Hopfau became part of Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg on January 1, 1969 .

On January 1, 2013 Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg was at the municipality structural reform 2010-2015 with book Geiseldorf to (Styria's first) newly created community book-St. Magdalena united.

Coat of arms Description : "A silver Salb vessel in red shield with silver inboard , who with green shamrocks is occupied." The jar of ointment is the attribute of St. Maria Magdalena , the church patroness and namesake. The shamrocks stand for St. Irish missionary Patrizius , who is also venerated here.

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from May 1, 1988. With the unification of the municipalities it became obsolete, the new coat of arms of the merged community was designed in such a way that elements from the old coat of arms are included.

Streets

Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg is off the main roads. The south motorway A 2, built here in the area 1983-89, runs through the old municipality near the district of Hopfau, but has no junction in this area. The nearest junction is Sebersdorf / Bad Waltersdorf  (126) approx. 6 km away. The change road B 54 from Hartberg to Gleisdorf is approx. 8 km away.

railroad

The thermal railway , built in 1891, runs through the municipality, but has no stopping point here. Since the Buch and Geiseldorf stops were closed, the nearest train station was in Sebersdorf, approx. 5 km away. At the time, it offered regional train connections to Hartberg and Fehring every two hours . In the late 2000s the line was integrated into the Styrian transport association , Buch was put back into operation as the Buch-Geiselsdorf stop , and the S3 was running more frequently again.

Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg (old also St. Magdalena bei Hartberg ) is a small group of the municipality of Buch-St. Magdalena . It comprises about twelve houses and is around 455  m above sea level. A. am Lemberg , a section of the Riedl that separates the Hartberger Safen valley from the Lafnitztal valley. Today, St. Magdalena has largely grown together with Lemberg to the south-east below and Grubberg on the other side of the Riedl.

History, infrastructure and sights

There was a church here as early as 1570.

In the first half of the 18th century a hermit presumably taught here. The resulting school still exists today, the elementary school St. Magdalena am Lemberg . She has an outstanding school choir, for which the school received the Mastersinger award in 2013 .

In 1785 St. Magdalena was established as a locality (local chaplaincy, with permanent chaplain) of the Hartberg parish and under the patronage of the Religionsfonds , and today's Magdalenenkirche was built in the years 1787–1788 ,

The place arose around the church, which was relatively well equipped in terms of goods at the time.

A major meteor is said to have fallen here in 1856.
In 1892 the parish was established.

From the abandoned Buch-Geiselberg train station , a hiking trail leads up over the Burgstall .

There is also the approximately 16 km long St. Magdalena cycle path  R36 in the Styrian state cycle path network .
