The Chamberlain of Worms were a widely ramified German family of the lower nobility . The best known and long surviving branch was the Dalberg line .

Preliminary remark

The family can be traced back to the 12th century. Assignments of persons to this family who lived before this time were made without any evidence.

The main sources of this tribe list contradict each other in the 14th century on some points with regard to the filiation of some family members. This is indicated in the notes.

Surname

From the 13th century onwards, the family named themselves after the leading office held by family members, Chamberlain of Worms . This function related to the diocese of Worms , not the city of Worms . Then - also to be able to distinguish the members of different branches of the family - the names of acquired castles, which served as "ancestral seats", were added as part of the name, such as Waldeck , Herrnsheim or Kropsburg . The original title of Kämmerer von Worms became increasingly empty in terms of content and became a title.

Remarks

  1. According to Schwennicke, however, he is still called alive in 1251.
  2. According to Bollinger, p. 17: † around 1337. The information between Bollinger and Schwennicke differ widely, so that there is a possibility that a generation is missing in the representations.

  4. According to Bollinger, p. 15: * around 1230, † after 1261.

  21. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate I: † May 30, 1348.
  22. Bollinger, p. 20, on the other hand, states: * around 1345.
  23. Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, Taf. I, names July 13, 1371, Bollinger, p. 20, names August 31, 1371 as the date of death.

  25. Bollinger, p. 29: † April 20, 1414.
  26. Bollinger, p. 23, and Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, Pl. I, on the other hand, state: † 1421.
  27. Bollinger, p. 25: † October 4, 1415.
  28. Schwennicke, plate 55 and Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, plate III, filiate it at this point in the family tree. Bollinger, pp. 26–28, however, refers - without proof - to documents in which Peter III. be called his father.
  29. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate III: * September 4, 1416.
  30. Bollinger, p. 31, names the wedding differently as "August 1453".
  31. Bollinger, p. 31: † March 10, 1502.
  32. Bollinger, p. 35, mentions August 8, 1428 in a different way.
  33. A niece of the same name, who is also mentioned in the same monastery and also mentioned in 1464 (Schwennicke, plate 56), suggests a personal identity; Bollinger, p. 31, does not mention her among the children of her alleged father, Johann XVII.
  34. Sun: Schwennicke, Taf.55, and Bollinger, p 21; Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, plate II, on the other hand “daughter of Johann von Scharffenstein”.
  35. Not in Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate II.
  36. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, plate II: † September 16, 1413.
  37. Bollinger, p. 36, gives as wife the same woman who is said to have been his mother. Since the information on descendants is also based on sources that are not classified as reliable (Bollinger, p. 36), they are not reproduced here.
  38. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate II: † March 12, 1453.
  39. ^ Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate II: † December 15, 1463.
  40. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate II: † March 23, 1476.
  41. ^ So Schwennicke, plate 55 and Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, plate II; different: Bollinger, p. 31: December 16, 1463.
  42. Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate II: † August 26, 1401.
  43. Since she was still a minor in 1334 (Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, Plate I.), Bollinger's estimate, p. 18, that she was born around 1308, cannot be correct.
  44. According to Schwennicke, plate 55, the marriage is said to have taken place in 1374, but this is hardly possible because of the age of the bride.
  45. Bollinger, p. 35, mentions August 8, 1428 in a different way.
  46. What is meant is the Church of St. Peter .
  47. ^ Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate IV: † September 21, 1549
  48. Schwennicke, plate 55: † April 19, 1559.
  49. The year of his death is given as 1561 on his grave slab. However, two of his nieces are said to have contested his will as early as 1560, from which Bollinger, p. 43, concludes that he must have already died.
  50. Bollinger, p. 43, states: * 1519.
  51. So the spelling of the name as a lemma in Wikipedia. Also in the literature: Dieter von Schön (en) burg (Schwennicke, plate 55; Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, plate IV) and Diether von Schöneburg (Bollinger, p. 39).
  52. Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, Plate IV: 1475–1508.
  53. ^ So: Bollinger, p. 42; Schwennicke, plate 55, on the other hand, states that it was not documented until 1519.
  54. Friends with Philipp Melanchthon (Schwennicke, plate 55; Bollinger, p. 36; Battenberg: Repertorien 14/3, plate IV).
  55. Bollinger assumes a year of birth around 1491, while Schwennicke assumes that he died as a child; Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate IV ,: “† young”.
  56. Not mentioned in Battenberg: Repertories 14/3, Plate IV.
