history
Stannern was founded at the end of the 12th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1347, and in 1367 the place received city rights. On May 22, 1808, the small town was the target of a meteor shower. Stannern had a population of 1850 in 2009, but the population fell in the following years. In 1900 and 1901 a big fire damaged the city badly. Before the First World War, the town was a popular destination for tourists from Vienna . Stannern lost its town charter in the Czechoslovak Republic. From October 1938 to April 1945 Stannern belonged to the Reichsgau Niederdonau .
