al-Jinn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al-Jinn ( Arabic الجن, DMG al-Ǧinn  'The Jinn') is the 72nd sura of the Koran , it contains 28 verses . The sura belongs to the parts of the Qur'an that were revealed in the second Meccan period (615–620). Its title refers to the first verse. The sura is divided into two parts: verses 1 to 15 contain a creed of the jinn , verses 16 to 28 an admonition to the people.

Djinns are a category of beings that stand between humans and angels. They were created from the flames of fire. They have a more subtle physicality than humans, but reproduce and are also mortal, because the Koran speaks of their past generations. They have the ability to hear God's voice and they are rational beings. There are believers and unbelievers among them. Like humans, they are subject to God's judgment. Verses 14 and 15 state that the believers among them will be rewarded and the unbelievers will be punished.
