geography

The place is on the left side above the Vltava valley , which has been flooded by the Orlík dam since the 1960s. The state road I / 29 leads through Temešvár from Písek towards Tábor , which crosses the reservoir east of the village on Podolský most .

Neighboring towns are Zálesi in the north, Červená , Pazderna and Podolsko in the north-east, Podolí I in the east, Olešná and Strouhy in the south-east, Chřešťovice and Dobešice in the south, Pazderny and Jamný in the south-west, Kašina Hora in the west as well as Na Babách, Mlačina, Vlastec and Struhy in the north-west.

history

The village, founded in 1716, was named after the city of Timisoara in the Banat , which was conquered by Austria during the Turkish Wars in the same year.

In 1848 a chain bridge was inaugurated over the Vltava.

The reinforced concrete bridge Podolský most over the Vltava valley was built between 1939 and 1943 . In addition, the old chain bridge still existed and served as a local communication channel. In the course of the construction of the Vltava dam, the chain bridge, which is protected as a technical monument, was dismantled and removed from the flood for future reconstruction elsewhere. On September 30, 1963, some small settlements in the Vltava valley were flooded by the dam. The dilapidated chaluppets previously served as hiding places for rabble rivals.

The more than 1000 steel cables and 2000 granite blocks of the chain bridge were stored in the depot for 13 years before a new location was found for them on the Lainsitz near Sedlec. The chain bridge, now known as Sedlecký most , was rebuilt between 1971 and 1975.

The old village school was refurbished in 2001 and converted into a residential building with seven apartments. There is a training center of the Electrotechnical Faculty of the Czech Technical University in Prague .
