Thor: Love and Thunder is a planned American science fiction - action comedy directed by Taika Waititi , which should come into the American cinema on February 11 2022nd It's a sequel to Thor: Decision Day from 2017 and the 28th feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Shortly before the release of Thor: Decision Day , Taika Waititi revealed his desire to direct another Thor film. In April 2019, Tessa Thompson announced that there was apparently a draft for a sequel to Thor: Decision Day and Waititi should actually direct. Finally, in July 2019, it was reported that a fourth Thor film was in development, for which both Chris Hemsworth in the eponymous lead role and Taika Waititi would return to direct. Waititi is also responsible for the script, which is based on the comic series The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron . He got support from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson , who revised his script so that there were ultimately "four or five" different designs. A little later, this information was officially confirmed again at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con . In addition, the original title Thor: Love and Thunder and the release date in November 2021 were announced. Waititi also revealed that Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman will be re-recording roles from previous films, with the latter becoming the female Thor in the film itself . According to Kevin Feige , it took a meeting between Waititi and Portman to convince the Israeli-American actress of her participation. Thompson commented on her character without having read the script that the Valkyrie would invest in the people as the new King of Asgard and rebuild the destroyed homeland. She was also revealed as the first LGBT character in the MCU. For the queen at her side, Jaimie Alexander got into conversation in her role as Lady Sif , who she last embodied in Thor - The Dark Kingdom . The Korg , played and dubbed by Waititi via motion capture , should get its biggest appearance in a film after Thor: Day of Decision and Avengers: Endgame , after Feige already revealed after the third Thor film that there will be a lot more with Korg and in the future Miek intend. Among other things, its culture and origin should be discussed. Furthermore, Christian Bale will appear as a villain. According to Waititi, the film will play before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and will be "bigger, louder and more bombastic" than Thor: Decision Day .
The preproduction was originally scheduled to start in March 2020 before filming should start in August 2020 at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney .
The film was originally scheduled to hit German cinemas on October 28 and US cinemas on November 5, 2021. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of the third Spider-Man film, which is still untitled, to the November date, the film is now set to hit German cinemas on February 10, 2022 and the US cinemas the following day.
