Varetz ( Occitan : Varès ) is a commune with 2,425 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Corrèze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of Brive-la-Gaillarde and the canton of Malemort-sur-Corrèze . Varetz is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération du Bassin de Brive .

Varetz is located in the metropolitan area about eight kilometers northwest of Brive-la-Gaillarde and about 72 kilometers south-southeast of Limoges . The place is located on the river Loyre , which also forms the eastern and northeastern municipal boundary and flows into the Vézère here . Varetz is surrounded by the neighboring communities Allassac in the north and north-east, Saint-Viance in the north-east and east, Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche in the south, Mansac in the west and south-west and Yssandon in the west and north-west.
