history
The name Lubersac comes from Lupersacum from Gallo-Roman times and refers to the founder of the property and means court of Lupercus. Archaeological finds such as roof tiles, plaster residues and pieces of money from the Hadrianic period prove a settlement in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Several ancient trade routes crisscrossed the municipality.
Around the year 1000 the lords of Lubersac built a wooden castle on the site of today's church. The von Lubersac family was originally Italian and descended from a Doge of the Republic of Genoa . As is often the case here in Lubersac, the street names reflect the privileges of the lords, the artisan guilds and the traditions of this era:
- Rue du Colombier: the privilege of breeding pigeons
- Impasse des Fours Banaux: public oven
- Pré du Vivier: Pond meadow (fish farming)
