Aigen im Ennstal is a municipality with 2682 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Liezen district and the judicial district of Liezen in Styria .
geography
Aigen im Ennstal is located in the Styrian Ennstal on the right (south of the Enns), about 10 km southwest of Liezen , directly opposite the confluence of the Hinterbergtal (from Ausseerland) into the Ennstal. The Grimming rises dominantly to the northwest , behind it on the left the southern flank of the Dachstein massif . The Dead Mountains stretch to the northeast , and the Gesäuse Mountains in the distance .
To the south the mountains belong to the Rottenmanner Tauern . The Aigner municipality is the entrance to the Gulling valley , extends in the north to the Enns (with a small parcel even on the other side of the Enns ), and in the south includes the lower Gulling and then the mountains to the left of the valley - the Gullingtal itself belongs to Rottenmann .
In the municipal area, the Kulm ( 918 m above sea level ), an island mountain of the Ennstal, lies dominantly to the west (towards the valley) , and behind it the Putterersee .

Culture and sights
- The island mountain Kulm near Aigen with its grave fields is assumed to be the central location of the prehistoric Eastern Alps and thus the early salt trade .
- The Pichlarn Castle , initially lordly from around 1009 until the middle of the 12th century, then monastery with the Admont Abbey , is now used as an upscale hotel with a golf course.
- The Puttererschloss as a medieval fortified courtyard stands on a hill above the Putterersee .
- The Aigen im Ennstal branch church was built from 1990 to 1992 according to plans by the architect Volker Giencke on the thoroughfare of the village of Aigen.
Economy and Infrastructure
- According to the 2001 census of workplaces, there are 89 workplaces with 863 employees in the municipality as well as 741 out-commuters and 707 in-commuters. There are 120 agricultural and forestry holdings (62 of which are the main occupation), which together cultivate 7,295 hectares (as of 1999).
- Tourism: Together with Irdning-Donnersbachtal and Wörschach, the municipality forms the “ Grimming -Donnersbachtal” tourism association. Its seat is in Irdning.
