The first stage of the 59th Tour of Austria with start and finish in Mayrhofen in the Zillertal had a length of 130.7 km and was a circuit of about 33 km in length, which was driven through four times. After about 25 km Jürgen Van De Walle and Morris Possoni were able to pull away from the field and extend their lead to a maximum of 3:40 minutes. They were overtaken by the peloton about ten km before the finish and the stage was decided in the sprint. Here the Italian Fabio Baldato prevailed over the German Gerald Ciolek .

The second stage led from the start and finish point of the previous day to Salzburg and was 194.9 km long. Despite numerous attempts to break away, it was only after 52 km that a driver managed to break away from the field: the Italian Sergio Laganà extended his lead to up to six minutes and won all mountain classifications. On the descent after the last mountain classification he was overtaken by the Austrian Rupert Probst , who was able to develop a lead of a maximum of one and a half minutes on the main field.

As on the day before, the field drove closed for the last ten km, the stage winner was again determined in the sprint: Gerald Ciolek won ahead of his compatriot Steffen Radochla and also secured the lead in the overall standings.

The third stage started in Salzburg and ended after 183.8 km with a mountain finish on the 1670 m high Kitzbüheler Horn . In the initial phase, 15 drivers separated from the field; they were caught up again at the beginning of the final climb. There the Austrians pulled Thomas Rohregger from, saved a lead of 18 seconds to the finish and took the jersey of overall leader ahead of his compatriot Christian Pfannberger , of the stage on the Kitzbüheler Horn in the previous year had ended as the winner.

The fourth stage from Kitzbühel to Prägraten am Großvenediger had a length of 183.7 km. After a quiet start to the race , a top group with the favorites for the overall victory was only formed in the ascent to the Großglockner , where the highest point of this year's Tour of Austria at 2,575 m was passed at the Hochtor . The Austrian Christian Pfannberger , who was third overall on the tour last year , was the fastest man to conquer and win the prestigious title of Glockner King; he also won the mountain classification.

In the descent from the Großglockner, Andreas Matzbacher (Austria) and Cristiano Salerno (Italy) were able to break away from the leading group, but they were overtaken by the pursuers in the final climb. In the final phase of the race, which was characterized by numerous attempts to break away, the Belgian Bjorn Leukemans managed the decisive attack. He won with around half a minute ahead of the Austrian Gerrit Glomser .

After the two difficult mountain stages, the fifth stage led from Lienz to Wolfsberg through significantly flatter terrain. At 207.1 km it was the longest stage of this year's Tour of Austria. About 70 km after the start, seven drivers were able to break away from the field and save a lead of almost nine minutes at the finish. Here the Belgian Gianni Meersman prevailed in the sprint against the Italian Gabriele Bosisio .

The sixth stage led from Wolfsberg to Semmering and had a length of 194.4 km. After about 30 km, a leading group of nine drivers formed, including the German Gerald Ciolek , who won two intermediate sprints during the stage and was able to collect important points in the battle for the overall sprint standings. Shortly after the second sprint classification, the group was put back and the field closed until 20 km from the finish. There a larger group with all favorites could break away for the overall victory. The Austrian Gerrit Glomser , already second on the fourth stage , achieved victory in the sprint; Second place went to the Spaniard Óscar Sevilla .

As in the previous year, the decision for the overall victory in the individual time trial in Podersdorf am See in 2007 ; the drivers had to cover a distance of 24.5 km. The Belgian Stijn Devolder won it by a clear margin. Ruslan Pidhornyj followed in second place, who was second overall on the tour last year . The previous leader Thomas Rohrgger lost more than two and a half minutes to Devolder in the fight against the clock.

8th stage on July 15th

The eighth and last stage of the Tour of Austria led from Podersdorf am See over 128.5 km to the destination at the Vienna State Opera . Shortly after the start, three drivers were able to pull away and set off with a lead in the ten-time round course in Vienna. The breakaway attempt was ended 14 km before the finish and the stage was decided in the sprint. Here the German Gerald Ciolek from the T-Mobile team was able to achieve his second stage win and also win the overall sprint classification. Stijn Devolder from the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team crossed the finish line at the same time as Ciolek and is the winner of the Tour of Austria 2007. The Austrian Christian Pfannberger from the Elk-Haus-Simplon team secured the mountain classification. As in the previous year, the team competition was won by the Irish Tenax team.
