The Alūksne District (Alūksnes novads) is located in northeastern Latvia in the historic Vidzeme region .

The area borders Estonia and Russia in the north . The wooded area is crossed by the Pededze river . The largest lake in the district is Alūksne Lake .

The district consists of the 15 parishes (pagasts) Alsviķi, Anna, Ilzene, Jaunalūksne, Jaunanna, Jaunlaicene, Kalncempji, Liepna, Maliena, Mālupe, Mārkalne, Pededze, Veclaicene, Zeltiņi, Ziemeri and the administrative center Alūksne . 19,221 inhabitants (2010) live in the Alūksne district.
