Artur Manuel Ribeiro Soares Dias (born July 14, 1979 in Vila Nova de Gaia ) is a Portuguese football referee .

Life

Dias studied at the Instituto Superior de Línguas e Administração de Vila Nova de Gaia , a university for languages ​​and administration in his hometown (since 2016 ISLA - Instituto Politécnico de Gestão e Tecnologia ). He completed his studies with a diploma.

Dias, himself the son of a referee, is a member of the official football association in the Porto district , the Associação de Futebol do Porto, and whistled football matches in his spare time as a student. In 2004 he was promoted to the first category and since then has also directed games in the Primeira Liga , the top division in Portugal.

Since 2010 it has also been approved for international games. Since then it has been used in a number of Europa League and Champions League games and was often used in junior tournaments.

Artur Dias was named Referee of the Year 2016 at the Gala Quinas de Ouro , organized by the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (FPF) together with the Portuguese Football Coach Association (ANTF) and the Union of Professional Football Players (SJPF) .

In early January 2017, Dias received death threats against him and his family from members of the FC Porto fan group Super Dragões . The threats are linked to FC Porto’s allegations that referees are often unfair and in favor of Benfica . Dias filed charges against unknown persons. The head of the Super Dragões , Fernando Madureira, then declared that he would apologize on behalf of his fan club for slides, if the allegations prove to be true. In this context, Madureira referred to the heated mood, for which he blamed wrong decisions by the association and repeated allegations against allegedly Benfica-friendly referee decisions.

In April 2017, Dias was appointed video referee at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.
