Sneaking, playing waves, and murmuring mildly ( BWV 206) is a secular cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach , which he composed in Leipzig and which he published on the birthday of August III. performed on October 7, 1736.
Story and text
Bach composed this cantata for King August III .; it was premiered in Leipzig on his 40th birthday in 1736 . A second performance took place on August 3, 1740.
The librettist of the work is unknown, but could have been Christian Friedrich Henrici (also known as Picander). This cantata is one of Bach's works for festivities at Leipzig University .
Occupation and structure
The cantata contains four vocal parts ( Pleiße - soprano , Danube - alto ), Elbe - tenor and Vistula - ( bass ) and a four-part choir ( SATB ). It is occupied with three trumpets , one set of timpani , three flutes , two oboes , two oboe d'amoren , two violins , one viola and the figured bass .
The cantata has eleven movements.
