Location of Benkendorf in Saxony-Anhalt

Benkendorf is a town and part of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark village of Benkendorf, a cul-de-sac village with a church, is located 10 kilometers south-east of Salzwedel on the Benkendorfer receiving water, which was formerly known as the river ditch.

history

In 1280 a Johannes Benkendorp in Salzwedel was mentioned as a witness in a document. In 1310 it was mentioned in a document in domo Johannis de Benkendorp in Salzwedel.

In 1336 Benkendorf is mentioned as in villa Bennekendorp , when Henning von Garthow ceded his rights over income from the village as a liege lord to the Elendengilde in Salzwedel. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place was listed as Benekendorp . Further mentions are 1608 Bendikendorpff and 1687 Benneckendorff .

Incorporations

On September 30, 1928, the manor district of Büssen was merged with the rural community of Benkendorf. So the district of Büssen came to the community.

On June 16, 2008, the municipal council of the municipality of Benkendorf decided that the municipality of Benkendorf should be incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel by means of an area change agreement. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2009.

After incorporation of the previously independent municipality of Benkendorf, Benkendorf and Büssen became districts of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. For the incorporated municipality, the local constitution according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt is introduced. The incorporated community of Benkendorf and the future districts of Benkendorf and Büssen became part of the receiving Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. A local council with five members including the local mayor was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Benkendorf.

The Protestant village church of Benkendorf is a two-part field stone building from the 13th century consisting of a ship and a retracted, just closed choir .
The local cemetery is in the churchyard.
