Borutta ( Sardinian : Boruta ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 267 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sassari in Sardinia . The municipality is located in the north of the island and about 27.5 kilometers southeast of Sassari . The neighboring communities are Bessude , Bonnanaro , Cheremule , Thiesi and Torralba .
history
The Grotta sa Rocca Ulari was inhabited by humans (the Ozieri culture ) around 3500 BC . The cathedral of San Pietro di Sorres was built in the 12th and 13th centuries for the diocese of Sorres, which existed until 1505, and is part of a monastery complex above today's village. Today the diocese of Sorres is a titular bishopric .
