David Johnelle "DJ" Kennedy (born November 5, 1989 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player . After graduating, Kennedy first played in the minor league NBA Development League (D-League) for farm teams of the NBA , where he came to two missions in the highest-endowed professional league after being sent to the NBA. At the end of his two-year time in the D-League, Kennedy moved to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers , with whom he won the 2013 D-League championship. Kennedy then played in Europe, where he joined the MHP giant Ludwigsburg in Germany after mostly short-term contracts in France , Israel and Russia after the start of the basketball league in 2014/15 . In this team he was recognized as the top scorer in points per game as the best offensive player in the league and still reached the play-offs for the German championship.

Career

At the end of his school days in his hometown, Kennedy won a Pennsylvania state championship with the school team of Schenley High School . He then got a scholarship from St. John's University in New York City , with whose college team Red Storm Kennedy played in the Big East Conference of the NCAA . Under coach Norm Roberts, the Red Storm only managed a positive season balance in 2010 and got an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament , where they were eliminated in the first round. Under the new coach Steve Lavin there was a much more positive season balance in Kennedy's senior year and the qualification for the national NCAA finals in 2011, in which, however, in the opening game, surprisingly clearly with 15 points difference, the lower-rated Bulldogs of Gonzaga University were defeated. In the Entry Draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA 2011 , Kennedy, whose point average had decreased from 15 to a good ten points per game under Lavin in his senior year, was subsequently not selected.

In November 2011, Kennedy finally joined the Erie BayHawks of Erie back in his native state. Following the departure of the BayHawks in the first play-off -Round the D-League got Kennedy did finally an agreement in the NBA with the Cavaliers from the also on Lake Erie lies Cleveland . By the end of the 2011/12 NBA season , he had two missions with an average of almost 30 minutes, but the Cavaliers clearly missed the play-offs with the third-worst record of all NBA teams. In the summer of 2012, Kennedy came to the Memphis Grizzlies in a player swap for Jeremy Pargo , where he only stayed as a training player until the beginning of October. At the beginning of the season he finally returned to the BayHawks in the D-League. Together with the German national player Tim Ohlbrecht , Kennedy was in the starting five of the Prospects in the All-Star Game of the D-League, which you could win with 14 points difference against the futures trained by Mike Taylor . After the BayHawks threatened to miss the play-offs with an average season record, Kennedy moved from the border with Canada to the far south of Texas to Hidalgo at the end of the season after D-League MVP Andrew Goudelock had moved up to the Los Angeles Lakers . At the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Kennedy won the 2013 D-League championship together with Ohlbrecht. In the 2013 NBA Summer League , Kennedy played in the jersey of the then NBA champion Miami Heat before he had a contract in Texas with the Dallas Mavericks in the pre-season , but they dismissed him ten days before the start of the NBA season.

In November 2013 Kennedy did not return to the D-League, but moved to Europe on the English Channel to Basket Club Maritime from Gravelines near Dunkirk in the far north-east of France. Only committed in the current season, Kennedy only stayed with the ULEB Eurocup participant for a good five weeks and left the club again in early December. In January 2014 Kennedy signed a new contract with Hapoel from Cholon in the Israeli Ligat ha'Al , which organisationally belongs to the continental association FIBA Europe . At the end of the season, the team reached the championship play-offs in seventh place with a slightly positive season balance, in which they were eliminated in the first round against Hapoel Jerusalem . At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Kennedy was under contract with the Russian club Krasny Oktjabr from Volgograd , which played in the VTB United League . Before the team was taken over by the German coach Dirk Bauermann , Kennedy's contract had already been terminated and at the beginning of December he switched to the German first division club MHP Riesen from Ludwigsburg , which had had a weak start to the season . Here he was able to take on the role of the weak Coby Karl and lead the giants from the table cellar back to a play-off place at the end of the season. Against the main round first and later title winner Brose Baskets , however, they did not win their own in the first round. As the top scorer in the basketball Bundesliga 2014/15 , Kennedy also received the award for best attacking player in the main round. In the summer of 2015, Kennedy signed a contract with the Russian club BK Yenisei Krasnoyarsk .
